Principal Architect: Google Cloud (GCP)

Location: London (Hybrid) | Practice Area: Technology & Engineering | Type: Permanent

Shape and lead transformative Google Cloud initiatives across financial services.

About Capco

Capco is a global leader in technology and business consulting, dedicated to driving digital innovation and transformation in financial services. We’ve partnered with over 100 clients worldwide - from pioneering fintechs to established global institutions - helping them adapt, compete, and scale in a rapidly evolving industry. With more than 30 offices globally, we combine deep expertise in banking, payments, capital markets, insurance, wealth and asset management, and energy with an agile, inclusive, and entrepreneurial culture.

Role Overview

Through your deep Google Cloud (GCP) expertise, you will act as a technical authority and trusted strategic advisor on some of our clients’ most complex and transformational initiatives. On the one hand, you will support established financial services firms through their cloud adoption and modernisation journeys; on the other, you will shape new-to-market cloud-native platforms and capabilities. You will set architectural direction while remaining hands-on, designing scalable and resilient Google Cloud architectures that deliver long-term, measurable business outcomes.

You will guide multi-disciplinary teams to bring your designs to life through fast-paced, agile delivery, working closely with senior stakeholders and platform teams. You will mentor junior talent, contribute to pre-sales and bid activities, and help cultivate a culture of technical excellence within our Technology and Engineering Practice.

Required Experience

To succeed in this role, you should have proven experience in:

  • Leading solution and enterprise architecture for significant Google Cloud initiatives, supported by at least foundational certification.
  • Advising senior leadership on cloud strategy, adoption, migration, and modernisation, including influencing high-level technology and investment decisions.
  • Domain expertise in financial services or similarly regulated sectors.
  • Designing distributed microservices architectures with zero-trust, leveraging Google Cloud services such as GKE, Cloud Functions, and Pub/Sub.
  • Architecting secure integrations across multi-cloud platforms, legacy systems, and third-party providers using APIs, gateways, and BFF patterns, while effectively managing legacy platform constraints.
  • Leading and mentoring cross-functional technical teams within agile delivery models and modern engineering practices (e.g., SAFe and DevOps).
  • Applying recognised architecture frameworks and methodologies (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman, Domain-Driven Design, or NIST).

While not mandatory, experience in the following areas is beneficial:

  • Senior or managerial-level consulting experience.
  • Holding advanced Google Cloud professional certifications or recognised architecture qualifications such as TOGAF.
  • Leading technical pre-sales, proposal development, and commercial estimation for major cloud transformation programmes.
  • Architecting data and AI platforms using Google Cloud services such as BigQuery, Vertex AI, and generative AI.
  • Designing landing zones, organisational structures, and secure network topologies, including Cloud IAM, multi-region architectures, and security guardrails.
  • Designing, building, and launching greenfield, cloud-native ventures for digital-first organisations.
