Position Overview
The Technical Training Specialist will report to the Technical Training Manager and is responsible for helping employees advance their knowledge, enhance and build their technical skills, and increase the moral and attitude to prepare for success in maintaining the factory’s manufacturing equipment and facilities.
The Technical Training Specialist is responsible for the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of training resources, conducts need assessments, executes, and evaluates all training initiatives; presents training material, vendor engagement and administration of the entire user learning process and experience for the assigned function.
The goal of this role is to elevate paint shop capability across pretreatment, e-coat, sealer, base/clear, curing, and defect prevention for premium surface quality.
Key Responsibilities
Training Operations
- Conduct Training Needs Assessments to identify training and development requirements
- Design and develop customized training programs, including workshops, seminars, and online learning modules
- Facilitate and deliver training programs to employees at all levels
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and provide feedback to improve future offerings
- Collaborate with line managers and HR to integrate training into the employee performance management system
- Stay abreast of industry best practices in training and learning methodologies
- Manage training budgets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Own and update the Dojo Station associated with the shop specific functions and manufacturing processes.
Technical Training Specialty and Ownership
- Develop modules on pretreatment & e-coat chemistry, film build, throw-power; booth airflow, temperature/humidity control; color harmony; electrostatics; atomizers; bell speed; shaping air; gun-to-target distance; bake-cure profiles.
- Create defect libraries & troubleshooting trees: orange peel, sag, dirt nibs, craters, fish-eyes, runs, color mismatch; visual standards.
- Teach robotic program basics, tip maintenance, filter & booth housekeeping standards; 5S and contamination control.
- Integrate quality tools: layer thickness gauges, gloss/haze measurement, DOEs for parameter optimization, SPC control charts.
- Embed safety & compliance: VOC handling, PPE, explosion protection, fire safety, environmental controls.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s in Chemical/Materials/Mechanical Engineering.
- 3+ years automotive paint operations; robotic paint exposure preferred.
