About the role
The OTC Derivatives Clearing Technology Solutions Architect is a senior individual contributor role embedded within the OTC Clearing in-house application development organization. The role sits at the intersection of deep technical architecture and business domain expertise, working hands-on alongside agile scrum teams to shape and deliver high-quality clearing technology solutions.
The successful candidate will bring strong software engineering instincts, sound architectural judgement, and a working knowledge of OTC clearing business processes. They will be equally comfortable whiteboarding a system design with engineers, reviewing a pull request, and presenting a technical approach to product stakeholders. This is not a purely advisory role — the expectation is active, collaborative engagement with delivery teams on a day-to-day basis.
Responsibilities:
Partner with scrum development teams building in-house OTC clearing applications, providing architectural guidance and hands-on technical input to ensure solutions are well-designed, scalable, and consistent with agreed architectural principles.
Drive technical design decisions across complex functional areas — facilitating alignment between engineering leads, product owners, and operations stakeholders on implementation approaches.
Maintain and evolve the architectural guardrails for the OTC clearing technology estate, ensuring new development adheres to best practices across system design, data quality, and platform stability.
Contribute directly to development where needed — reviewing code, prototyping solutions, and demonstrating good engineering practices within the team.
Champion the adoption of modern development tooling, including AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Devin), and help teams integrate these effectively into their delivery pipelines.
Act as a credible technical voice with product and business stakeholders — translating complex engineering considerations into clear business terms and vice versa.
Collaborate with other senior technology leads across FDC and the broader Markets Technology organization to ensure consistency of approach and shared learning.
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citi, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, and applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
- Master’s degree preferred
Hands-on experience designing and building applications within an OTC clearing or broader clearing/derivatives processing environment is strongly preferred; candidates with adjacent experience in operational or product processor roles involving complex trade data ingestion and lifecycle management will also be considered.
Strong knowledge of OTC clearing business processes — including clearing workflows, margining, collateral management, and regulatory reporting — or a demonstrable ability to acquire this rapidly.
Proven track record of delivering within agile/scrum teams in a large enterprise setting, with the ability to operate effectively across distributed, multi-location teams.
Solid architectural depth across modern application development patterns, with the ability to guide teams on design trade-offs and implementation approaches within defined architectural boundaries.
Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Devin, Claude Code) as part of a modern software delivery pipeline.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills — able to engage credibly with engineers, product managers, operations leads, and senior business stakeholders.
Experience working in a banking or financial services environment is required.
10+ years of relevant technology experience in financial services.
