The Pattern Maker supports the development of YETI’s bags and luggage category by applying strong foundational knowledge of patternmaking, construction, and manufacturing processes. This role contributes to product consistency and innovation by utilizing 2D CAD and 3D software tools, collaborating cross-functionally, and recommending improvements to existing systems and workflows. The Pattern Maker works independently under general direction and regularly resolves non-routine issues.
Key Responsibilities
Create patterns from 2D design illustrations using 2D CAD software.
Develop product standards and guidelines including construction tolerances, training documents, and initial marker layouts.
Provide input on construction, technology, quality, and fit to support product development.
Support the enhancement of systems to ensure pattern and fit requirements are met and contribute to innovation in product creation technologies.
Maintain development schedules to ensure timely completion of projects in alignment with the NPD schedule.
Review, update, and organize existing documentation; create new documents as needed.
Create 3D digital product representations using designated tools to visualize new designs.
Collaborate with Design and Product Development teams to research market trends and explore new technologies, materials, and construction methods.
Educate and train internal teams to increase awareness of construction, fit, and quality drivers.
Translate creative design concepts into functional products that meet aesthetic and performance requirements for end users and Tier 1 production partners.
Qualifications
Greater than 2 years of relevant experience in patternmaking, construction, and manufacturing processes for bags and luggage.
Ability to independently research, develop, and manage moderately complex products.
Proficiency in Gerber or similar CAD programs and 3D design systems.
General knowledge of production environments and sewing workflows.
Understanding of material properties and product quality standards.
Familiarity with SOPs and process documentation.
Ability to analyze problems and recommend practical solutions.
Capable of managing multiple projects under general direction and meeting deadlines.
Exposure to innovations in materials, trims, production processes, and support systems.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Growth mindset and enthusiasm for learning and problem-solving.
Results-oriented and adaptable in a dynamic environment.
Passion for product creation and the outdoor lifestyle.
Fluency in English; Vietnamese language skills preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Indoor work setting with occasional exposure to dust, noise, and bright lighting.
Frequent sitting or standing; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
Regular use of sewing machines, CAD systems, and hand tools.
