The Executive Director of Graduate and Postdoctoral Trainee Success will take a leadership role within the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (OGPDS) and build a national reputation for our graduate programs and postdoctoral scholars. Responsibilities include developing and implementing a shared strategic vision with attainable goals for the office, establishing and applying metrics for tracking program outcomes; providing career coaching for the graduate and postdoc community, applying best practices for graduate student & postdoctoral fellows career development as set by AAMC GREAT group and the NPA, establishing comprehensive graduate and postdoctoral training curriculum and hold regular training events. This position requires high collaboration with the Associate Dean for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, Vice Dean for Research, and Department Coordinator for OGPDS, and the Postdoc Services Manager in the Office of Research & Innovation. This position will report to the Vice Dean for Research in the SOM.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Build a national reputation for our programs through active roles in committees and projects within appropriate national associations and committees, such as National Postdoctoral Association (NPA), and Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Research, Education, and Training (AAMC GREAT).
Develop and deliver comprehensive programs and services, including workshops, seminars, career events, career counseling, mentoring, and individualized development plans (IDPs).
Implement strategies to expand and improve professional development, social experience, and the personal well-being of graduate and postdoctoral trainees.
Implement best practices for graduate student services related to recruitment and retention, core competencies assessments, and health & wellbeing.
Oversee the CRAFT series: develop, plan, and execute training and professional development for postdocs aligned with the core competencies identified by the National Postdoctoral Association.
Advise and mentor trainees on career options and how to successfully complete training, and prepare for career transitions.
Create and maintain alumni databases for career outcomes and networking connections.
Generate trainee highlights to promote graduate students and postdocs at the SOM.
Manage a travel award program.
Oversee current content on website and social media.
Serve as Course Director for the Responsible Conduct of Research course.
Preferred Qualifications
At least 3 years of postdoctoral training.
Demonstrated leadership and 8-12 years administrative/ program management experience in student affairs/services and project management.
Working knowledge of best practices for graduate student & postdoctoral fellows career development as set by AAMC GREAT group and the NPA.
Experience identifying institutional risks and resolving conflict.
Familiarity with the challenges and needs of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.
Competencies
Strong interpersonal skills to build effective, strong working relationships with students, postdocs, and colleagues through trust, communication, and credibility.
Strong oral and written skills.
Highly organized.
Ability to prioritize, coordinate and direct multiple programs, operations, and services.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
