About the location:
The 123-room Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto is the company’s second destination in Japan, in the city’s historic Higashiyama-ku district, close to the Kyoto National Museum and myriad heritage sites such as the Toyokuni Shrine and Kiyomizu Temple. Local artists are featured throughout the traditionally-inspired modern décor characterised by an understated Japanese aesthetic. The Hotel has a spa and fitness centre with a pool, and four food and beverage concepts. There are also be 57 Four Seasons Private Residences.The Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto is looking for a Senior Director of Public Relations and Marketing. The successful candidate is required to have native-level proficiency in Japanese and in English.
This is cluster role, which looks after both Kyoto and Osaka.
Responsibilities
The Senior Director of Public Relations and Marketing is a strategic leader within the property team, responsible for shaping and executing integrated communications and marketing strategies that elevate the property’s positioning, strengthen brand equity, and drive measurable commercial impact. Reporting to the Commercial Director, this role leads media relations, reputation management and crisis communications, marketing communications, social and influencer engagement, and digital performance marketing, including paid media and SEO.
This position applies market intelligence, consumer insights, and performance data to optimize channel plans and ensure message consistency and clarity across all touchpoints. Serving as a brand steward and trusted advisor, the role collaborates with property leadership, regional and global teams, and agency partners to deliver best-in-class storytelling and high-impact campaigns that resonate with target affluent audiences. This includes driving strategies that support direct bookings via FourSeasons.com by setting growth goals, optimizing organic search visibility, and ensuring paid media investments deliver measurable ROI through data-driven planning and testing. The ideal candidate combines strategic vision with operational excellence, creativity and leadership, inspiring teams, managing complex projects, and delivering measurable results in a dynamic, fast-paced property environment. Exceptional stakeholder management across internal and external audiences is essential to success.
· Develop and lead the annual PR and Marketing strategy and supporting channel plans aligned with commercial goals and property priorities.
· Lead the creation and execution of the integrated marketing and communications calendar, including campaign plans, global brand initiatives, and on‑property activations and F&B promotions.
· Identify and analyze seasonal trends, key moments, priority feeder markets, and target audiences to inform annual marketing and campaign planning.
· Apply market intelligence, consumer trends, guest insights, and competitive analysis to guide positioning and data-driven decision-making. Adjust strategies as market conditions evolve.
· Together with the Commercial Director, oversee the planning, allocation, and tracking of Media, Digital, Promotion and related investment within the property’s P&L, ensuring budgets across paid, owned and earned channels, including content, are optimized to maximize campaign impact, strengthen ROI, and drive growth through FourSeasons.com.
· Establish and monitor a local measurement framework (KPIs); track Property Scorecard metrics; conduct post-campaign analysis to inform future initiatives. · Deliver comprehensive performance reporting across all channels; apply insights to refine strategies and optimize future initiatives.
· Together with the Commercial Director, set and manage annual budgets with disciplined financial accountability.
· Maximize adoption of global brand initiatives and campaigns in local and feeder markets to showcase the property’s distinctive guest experiences.
· Champion brand stewardship at the property level by ensuring consistent execution of brand guidelines with local relevance and adherence to governance processes.
