About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Process Engineer with specialized expertise in coating technologies for gas turbine components. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in aluminum-platinum deposition and diffusion processes, as well as in the application of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) using HVOF (High Velocity Oxy-Fuel) and APS (Atmospheric Plasma Spray) technologies. This role is key to ensuring coating quality, process stability, and continuous improvement in high-performance turbine environments.
Responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities
Coating Process Engineering:
- Develop, optimize, and standardize coating processes including aluminum-platinum deposition, diffusion heat treatment.
- Define and control process parameters to ensure coating quality, adhesion, thickness uniformity, and compliance with specifications.
- Prepare and maintain detailed process documentation (e.g., work instructions, control plans, technical specifications).
Thermal Spray Operations (HVOF & APS):
- Manage setup and operation of HVOF and APS coating systems.
- Monitor and troubleshoot spray parameters, equipment performance, and powder feed systems to maintain process integrity.
- Ensure safety compliance and equipment calibration in accordance with industry standards.
Quality & Metallurgical Support:
- Work closely with the quality and materials engineering teams to analyze coating defects, microstructures, and process-related anomalies.
- Coordinate root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
New Process Introduction & Continuous Improvement:
- Lead the industrialization of new coating technologies or upgrades, from development to full-scale production.
- Drive process improvements in terms of cycle time, yield, repeatability, and environmental compliance.
- Collaborate with R&D, design engineering, and external suppliers as needed.
- Master’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering or equivalent demonstrated hands-on experience
- Solid experience in coating processes for aerospace or energy sector, particularly gas turbines.
- Technical expertise in: Aluminum-platinum deposition and diffusion, Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs), High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) and Atmospheric Plasma Spray (APS) spraying techniques
- Strong understanding of coating microstructures, thermal protection, oxidation/corrosion resistance, and adhesion mechanisms.
- Familiarity with metrology, NDT, and metallurgical analysis techniques.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional team and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in English.
