Job Summary

The Technical Surveyor, based in Houston, TX, is responsible for technical activities associated with depot operations in the region. They will Interact with technicians, depots, customers, and EXSIF personnel to achieve prescribed departmental and company objectives. The candidate will effectively apply ITCO and IICL standards and ensure compliance at all NASA depots.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Oversight & Quality Assurance

  • Conduct regular quality audits at depot locations to monitor inspection, repair quality, operational practices, and cost control.
  • Ensure depot performance meets EXSIF’s technical standards and operational requirements.
  • Ensure tank equipment is repaired promptly and in accordance with EXSIF technical standards, depot contracts, and tariff structures.
  • Ensure industry maintenance and repair standards are properly applied to all tank equipment.
  • Implement and enforce company technical policies and procedures across depot partners.
  • Manage the technical hold process in coordination with HQ, TLS, and depot partners.

Depot & Vendor Management

  • Maintain strong professional relationships with depot partners, vendors, and surveyors.
  • Monitor depot operational activities including inspection, repair practices, and cost management.
  • Ensure depots are supplied with and comply with all technical documentation, procedures, and technical bulletins.
  • Monitor the use and application of EXSIF internet services and systems by depots and on-hire surveyors.

Training & Technical Support

  • Train depot estimators and repair personnel, ensuring compliance with EXSIF inspection and repair standards.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to internal teams and external partners.
  • Arrange and direct training sessions for both internal staff and external customers as required.

Customer & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Resolve technical disputes with customers and third parties, including coordinating joint surveys and investigations.
  • Obtain customer approvals on repair estimates and coordinate with other EXSIF regions when necessary.
  • Support the Tank Operations team in achieving operational and technical performance objectives.

Technical Programs & Industry Compliance

  • Execute technical directives issued by EXSIF HQ including technical bulletins, warranty programs, remarking, and equipment modifications.
  • Stay current on engineering developments and industry best practices within the tank container sector.
  • Assist with warranty identification and field support activities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of related experience.
  • Technical degree, certification, or relevant coursework in engineering, maintenance, or a related field.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or equipment maintenance environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate across operational and commercial teams.
  • Ability to travel throughout North and South America as required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
