Summary

Offering multiple majors and home to all of Barry’s student media, Communication is a popular department and a hub of student activity on campus. Because it is closely linked to the technological, social, and cultural changes rapidly changing our world, communication is a versatile major at Barry University that provides students various ways to pursue their interests and career goals.

Our programs reflect the breadth of the communication discipline with majors in Communication & Media Studies, Advertising and Public Relations, and Television and Digital Media. We also offer minors in each of these areas and an interdisciplinary minor in journalism that combines classes in graphic design, photography, English writing, and communication.

Barry University in Miami Shores seeks an Adjunct Faculty member to teach Fundamentals of Speech. Candidates should possess a master’s degree or equivalent in Communication or a related field. Prior teaching experience is preferred. Responsibilities include delivering engaging lectures, fostering student participation, and assessing speech performances. Ideal candidates will demonstrate effective communication skills and a commitment to student success.

Essential Functions

In collaboration with the appropriate academic/director, the Adjunct Faculty will:
 

  • Produce a comprehensive syllabus.

  • Create, administer and evaluate exams, papers and projects.

  • Employ appropriate academic online resources (e.g., Canvas, etc.).

  • Schedule at least one office hour per week, per course section, to address students’ questions, issues, concerns, etc.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A master’s degree or higher in Communication (or closely related area) and 18 graduate hours in Speech/Communication discipline (or closely related)

  • Prior teaching experience is preferred.

  • Excellent communications skills
