Job Description

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections,  where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Our Global Internship Programme in Innovation & Sustainability (#IP2TIS) offers a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry while making a positive impact on the world.

Are you ready to join a global network spanning 20+ countries, where bright minds collaborate to tackle real-world challenges in Innovation & Sustainability? Do you want to work on impactful projects, shape the future, and drive change from within?

As an intern, you will contribute to a project focused on mapping the IVD install base landscape across Africa through a data-driven, AI-enabled approach. The project aims to replace fragmented and manual records with a standardized, validated data source that supports better commercial decision-making, service planning, and market development. Within your first 3 months, you are expected to help identify suitable AI tools for the vision module, support the design of the database architecture, contribute to training the AI to identify laboratory instruments from photos, develop a prototype for use in low-data environments, and help create data reports and visualizations. Your work will support more evidence-based strategy, stronger regional planning, and improved access to IVD testing in underserved settings. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply AI and data tools to a high-impact healthcare access challenge across the African continent.

The Opportunity

  • Identify and assess suitable AI tools for the computer vision component of the project

  • Support the selection and design of the ideal database tool and relational database setup

  • Train an AI model to identify laboratory instruments from photographs and extract relevant information

  • Prototype a mobile-first tool and iterate its design to ensure usability in low-data environments

  • Help build a standardized taxonomy and data model for Roche and competitor instruments

  • Support the creation of a verified pilot dataset including facility, instrument, and geolocation information

  • Develop reports, dashboards, and geospatial visualizations to analyze install base density, brand presence, and instrument lifecycle

  • Contribute to training materials, documentation, and a scaling playbook for broader rollout across additional markets

Who You Are

You are enrolled or have completed your Master’s studies at a university, preferably in the field of Computer Science, ICT, AI, or Machine Learning within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months.

Furthermore you are

  • Familiar with machine learning tools and interested in computer vision applications

  • Comfortable working with geospatial mapping software, databases, and data visualization approaches

  • Able to structure technical problems clearly and develop practical prototypes in resource-constrained environments

  • A self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate across teams

  • Fluent in English; French is a plus

If you meet most but not all qualifications, we still encourage you to apply.

Additional information

The internship is expected to start between 1 and 16 July 2026 and will last at least 3 months.
