Job Description Summary & Additional Information

ACES, the Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students, is a four year undergraduate honors cybersecurity program within the University of Maryland Honors College. Comprised of two linked academic programs, ACES includes a living-learning program (LLP) for freshmen and sophomores and the ACES Minor for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. ACES includes academic and co-curricular components, including events focused on community building, professional development, and applied cybersecurity learning.

The ACES Graduate Assistant (GA) plays a key role in supporting administrative, assessment, database management, and communication functions of the program.

The person in this position also assists as needed with other aspects of the ACES Program, and must be able to work in the evenings and during weekends at events and meetings as needed. The ACES Graduate Assistant reports to the ACES Program Coordinator with functional reporting to the ACES Associate Director.

Administration and Database Management (70%):

  • Maintain and update the ACES Database to ensure accuracy and completeness for current students and alumni 

  • Manage student records across university systems (e.g. Student Information System, UAchieve)

  • Conduct audits for program milestones, including ACES Minor completion and LLP citation requirements

  • Monitor student academic progress and flag concerns to the Associate Director to support retention and intervention efforts 

  • Support onboarding and tracking of student participation in ACES programming 

  • Assist with logistics and administrative coordination for program operations, including course permission processes and access requests 

Assessment (20%): 

  • Design, implement, and manage program surveys (e.g., student experience, event feedback, outcomes assessment)

  • Analyze survey data and compile reports and visualizations to inform program decisions 

  • Maintain assessment documentation and contribute to annual reporting processes 

Communications (10%): 

  • Highlight student achievements, internships, research, and program milestones through monthly news articles 

  • Assist with marketing and outreach efforts to internal and external stakeholders (e.g., data visualizations for the ACES website)

Additional Duties: 

  • Provide support for ACES events, workshops, and meetings

  • Assist with special projects and other program needs as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Admission to and active enrollment in a graduate program at the University of Maryland, College Park

  • Good academic standing and satisfactory progress toward degree completion

  • Ability to balance graduate coursework with work responsibilities

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with or willingness to learn university systems and databases 

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Familiarity with data management and assessment practices

  • Experience with content writing, marketing, or digital communications

  • Interest in cybersecurity education, honors programs, or living learning communities

  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively

Appointment Details:

  • Duration: One-year, renewable assistantship (12-month appointment)

  • Time Commitment: 20 hours per week during standard business hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm 

    • A weekly schedule will be designed around your class schedule

    • At least 12 hours/week in-person 

    • Occasional evening and weekend work required (within 20-hour limit)

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a registered graduate student in good standing enrolled in a degree program at the University of Maryland and must be making satisfactory progress toward the degree.

Graduate Assistant I is for master’s students.
