Job Description:
This journeyman position for shift operation & maintenance of the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) Complex. This 400,000 square foot facility consists of 14 buildings and includes teaching facilities, medical clinics, a hospital containing both small & large animal operating and recovery rooms, necropsy laboratories, animal incinerators, & biomedical research facilities with biological hazard laboratories. The SVM operates 7 day per week, 24 hours a day. The major equipment associated with the physical plant includes two large boilers, chillers, emergency generators, pumps & cooling towers.
Job Duties:
Operates above equipment and auxiliaries including firing of steam generators, starting and stopping chillers, pumps, cooling towers, etc. monitors and records operating conditions and makes adjustments as required to meet load conditions utilizing computerized Energy Management System.-60%
Performs general maintenance mechanic duties (including but not limited to: filter replacement, belt tensioning, basic plumbing, light replacement, etc.). Performs general maintenance duties in the boiler room. Other duties as assigned.-25%
Performs preventative maintenance work on boilers and related equipment such as: ventilation and refrigeration equipment, air conditioning machinery, generators, suction fans, pumps, and compressors. Performs preventative maintenance work in the boiler room.-15%
Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of experience or training in the operation or maintenance of large stationary engines or mechanical equipment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
For those positions in which incumbents will be working with and handling refrigerants, possession of an appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians will be required (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990)
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Due to the nature of this position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
In accordance with PS-18 this position may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of emergency or closure.
Due to the position's physical requirements, a pre-employment physical examination will be required per FASOP: HR-04.
