The Opportunity:


The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring circuit assemblies and electronic assemblies meet engineering, contractual, and quality requirements throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. This role provides engineering-level oversight of circuit assembly processes, supports Material Review Board (MRB) activities, develops Quality Control Plans (QCPs), and ensures inspection and test methods align with engineering and program requirements. The position serves as the technical authority for circuit assembly-related quality, supporting manufacturing, test, and supplier performance while driving defect prevention and corrective action.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering oversight and technical guidance for circuit assembly, soldering and electronic integration processes to ensure compliance with engineering requirements and IPC standards 

  • Review and interpret schematics, engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical data packages to establish inspection and acceptance criteria 

  • Develop, implement, and maintain Quality Control Plans (QCPs) and inspection criteria for circuit assemblies and electronic components

  • Support and participate in Material Review Board (MRB) activities including evaluation of nonconforming circuit assemblies, root cause analysis, and disposition development (use-as-is, repair, rework, scrap) 

  • Ensure proper documentation and control of nonconforming material in accordance with company quality procedures and regulatory standards 

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and inspection personnel on circuit assembly workmanship standards, defect identification, and acceptance criteria (e.g., solder joints, component placement, cleanliness, coating)

  • Investigate recurring defects related to circuit assemblies (e.g., solder defects, component failures, workmanship issues) and support corrective action activities 

  • Develop and refine inspection and verification processes to ensure adequate defect detection while maintaining production efficiency 

  • Review supplier documentation including Certificates of Conformance (CoCs), test data, and traceability records for circuit assemblies and components 

  • Identify risks associated with circuit assembly design, manufacturing processes, and supplier performance; escalate systemic issues impacting product quality or delivery

  • Support program quality teams by analyzing defect data, yield trends, and failure modes related to circuit assemblies 

  • Ensure circuit assembly manufacturing and inspection processes comply with the Quality Management System (QMS) and applicable industry standards (e.g., AS9100, IPC standards)

Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related technical field) or equivalent experience

  • Experience in electronics manufacturing, circuit assembly, or quality engineering within a production environment

  • Strong ability to read and interpret schematics, engineering drawings, specifications, and technical data packages 

  • Working knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-A-610 required; IPC-620 preferred)

  • Experience with MRB processes, nonconforming material control, and corrective action methodologies

  • Experience developing inspection plans, quality control plans, or similar quality documentation 

  • Proficiency with circuit assembly inspection tools and methods (microscopes, measurement tools, etc.)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills related to electronic manufacturing defects

Desired:

  • Experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing environments

  • Familiarity with AS9100 Quality Management Systems and audit requirements

  • Experience with electronic quality systems such as TipQA, or similar NCR/MRB tracking systems

  • Experience supporting supplier quality improvement initiatives for circuit assemblies or electronic components

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
