We are seeking an experienced and results driven Senior Claims Specialist to manage claims while providing technical leadership within the claims function.The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that general insurance claims are handled expeditiously and in a professional manner thereby meeting the customer expectations.
Key Result Areas
Insurance Claims Administration and Evaluation
Manage end to end insurance claims in accordance with established claims procedures, regulatory requirements, and customer service standards. Investigate claim circumstances and assess the nature and extent of losses, appointing and coordinating independent loss adjusters, investigators, or subject‑matter experts where required.
Evaluate all available evidence to determine liability and quantum, negotiate fair and timely claim settlements within delegated authority, and authorise claims accordingly. Escalate complex matters, disputes, or claims exceeding authority limits to the line manager with clear recommendations.
Fraud and Financial Crime Investigation
Support fraud and financial crime investigations by collecting, analysing, and maintaining relevant information and physical evidence to support criminal or legal proceedings. Escalate findings and recommend appropriate next steps to the lead investigator.
Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of financial policies, guidelines, and protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and sound financial governance.
Regulatory and Compliance Management
Handle standard claims and incidents in line with applicable regulatory and compliance frameworks, systems, and procedures, resolving immediate compliance issues and escalating matters where necessary.
Leadership and Direction
Provide clear direction by translating action plans into practical priorities for the team, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s strategy, mission, vision, and business objectives, while motivating high performance and accountability.
Performance Management
Manage personal performance against agreed objectives and use performance management systems to drive continuous improvement. Where applicable, allocate work, monitor delivery, address performance gaps, ensure quality and timeliness, and contribute to formal performance reviews and appraisals.
Requirements: Skills, Qualifications and Experience required
Diploma or Degree in Insurance/Risk Management/Business Administration/Finance.
Certificate of Proficiency (COP) in Short-Term Insurance.
Professional certification (e.g. Chartered Insurance Institute – CII) is an added advantage.
3–5 years of experience in Insurance claims, with at least 3 years of leading and guiding a team.
Strong knowledge of insurance policies, regulatory compliance, and claims evaluation procedures.
