This position is for an Autonomy System Engineer - Remote Control to support the Remote-Control section within Autonomy & Automation division. The individual hired for this position will work as part of an engineering team to design, develop, integrate, and test robust, scalable features on embedded electronic control systems for use in remote-controlled machine applications.
What You Will Do:
- Design, Integrate, Validate and Maintain Remote Control system for new/existing Caterpillar machine programs
- Gather and document requirements specifications for remote control features
- Work with RTOS, Linux based embedded systems to design remote control features
- Issue resolution through triage and troubleshooting
- Develop and execute test plans for system verification and validation.
- Troubleshoot complex software and system issues, including root cause analysis and resolution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including, but not limited to, Software development teams, Product groups, Hardware, Validation and Product Support
- Ensure compliance of the system and software with industry standards, functional safety & cybersecurity guidelines.
- Support customer demos and trade shows
What You Have:
- Systems Engineering Experience: Demonstrated experience leading system requirements development and management across complex, multi-team or multi-product environments. Proven experience defining system architecture, interfaces, and integration strategies that scale across platforms and industries. Experience making architectural trade-offs and influencing technical direction beyond a single team or product.
- Industry Knowledge: Applied experience within CI or RI industry groups, including understanding of industry trends, regulatory considerations, and operational constraints. Ability to apply industry experience pragmatically to diverse and ambiguous technical situations, rather than relying solely on documented standards.
- Problem Solving: Extensive experience recognizing, anticipating, and resolving complex system, organizational, or process problems. Ability to apply engineering judgment in situations with incomplete data, competing priorities, and long-term consequences.
- Application Development Tools: Hands-on experience with application and system development tools, architecture, and modeling approaches used to design and validate large-scale systems. Ability to select and apply appropriate tools based on problem context rather than tool familiarity alone.
Consideration for Top Candidates:
- Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Working knowledge in the areas of robotics, remote control, or autonomy
- Proven experience in Product Development and Validation of heavy equipment
- Working knowledge with datalinks (CAN, Ethernet, etc.) and associated tools (CANalyzer, CANape, Wireshark, etc.)
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies
- Working knowledge with FMEA processes and a basic knowledge of electronic system failure modes
- Working knowledge developing with embedded real-time software or systems for mobile, earthmoving, agricultural, industrial, or off-highway applications
- Proven ability to work on production products through design, implementation, customer rollout, and support.
- Ability to decompose complex customer requirements into achievable technical requirements for the systems that make up the product.

- This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Clayton, NC office.

Summary Pay Range:
$97,530.00 - $158,480.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
