The New York Times is looking for an Administration Specialist to join their Seoul Newsroom, working on administrative matters.
In this role, you will be the primary point of contact for staff lifecycle events, from supporting the onboarding of new employees in Seoul to coordinating office-wide events. You will work on our newsroom operations team in close concert with our HR team to build a seamless operational environment and a great culture for our newsroom staff, making this an excellent entry point for someone looking to specialize in operations, HR, or employee engagement.
Main responsibilities:
- Help create procedures for staff relocating to or visiting Korea
- Translate all manner of documents between English and Korean
- Coordinate with relevant teams to provide high-touch administrative support for employees, with a special focus on onboarding overseas staff and helping them navigate the logistical and cultural transitions of living and working in Korea.
- Lead planning and coordination for events for staff and visitors to enhance employee engagement and office culture.
- Build and maintain relationships to help staff navigate the logistics of living and working in Seoul
- Liaise with the human resources team to help obtain and maintain visas as well as
address any immigration issues. - Work together with the human resources team to conduct administrative and HR
activities (logistics, payments, etc.) - Report to the newsroom administrator, working closely with the HR team
Our ideal candidate:
- University degree or equivalent experience
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Korean language
- Ability to quickly and accurately translate between English and Korean
- Some previous administration experience preferred; a background or strong interest in event planning and coordination is a plus
- Demonstrated interest in developing a career in People Operations or Human Resources
- Ability to handle matters with integrity and confidentiality
- Customer service minded with a proactive operational mindset
- Ability to multitask with exceptional time-management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Tech-savvy with proficiency in general computer applications and digital tools.
