Description of Work

This position is located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution in Halifax County, NC. This position is a duty assignment to the medium/minimum custody facility. Work in this class provides first-line supervision for Correctional Officer II's in a medium custody facility and Correctional Officer I’s in a minimum custody facility. Employee supervises officer activities and performance and ensures that the custody, security, and welfare of inmates is maintained. Employee conducts shift line-up, makes shift assignments to include duty area and post; and inspects all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. This position will complete, review, and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms. This position will account for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready and implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy. At this level, employees may supervise inmates in restrictive housing.
Salary Range: $39,244- $68,679

Minimum Education and Experience

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as Correctional Officer II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.EEO Statement
