Description of Work

Reporting to a Correctional Housing Unit Manager II at a multi-custody female correctional facility, this position is responsible for first line supervision of Correctional Officer II's. This position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Assigning lower level custody staff to a particular area or post.

2. Evaluating and overseeing officer activities and performance and ensuring that the custody, security, and welfare of offenders is maintained.

3. Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing standard operational procedures (SOPs) and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy.

4. Managing the facility on occasion of being the highest-ranking custody staff on the premises or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC).

5. Ensuring that staff are fully trained and that proper conduct, actions, and procedures are being followed.

6. Maintaining facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance, health, and safety of offenders.

7. Communicating effectively instructions/directions during drills, searches, and in emergencies situations.

8. Responding to emergency situations such as; distress codes, escapes, and transportation of offenders.

9. Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, offender living areas and work areas for contraband.

10. Investigating and taking action when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints.

11. Preparing, reviewing reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage.

The salary grade for this position is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About Anson Correctional Institution

Anson Correctional Institution houses female offenders in medium and close custody housing units. Anson CI offers a wide variety of educational, vocational, and training programs. Correction Enterprises operates the offender packaging operation at Anson, a partnership with Union Supply Direct through the Prison Industry Enhancement Program (PIE). Family and friends can order a package of goods from a pre-approved shopping list to send to an offender. Orders are packaged by offenders and shipped quarterly.

Minimum Education and Experience

Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
