Boston Dynamics is seeking a Senior Staff, Product Safety Engineer in the field of mobile machinery, dynamically stable robots (quadruped, humanoids), and automation industries. This role will be responsible for supervising the Safety and Functional Safety lifecycles of mobile manipulators and dynamically stable robots, compliance with technical standards and regulatory frameworks in coordination with product management, engineering, system integration, service, and maintenance. In particular, we are looking for innovative thinking in setting requirements and goals beyond functional safety, and effective validation methods. We require a strong cross-disciplinary expertise and experience in risk-based analysis, system engineering, and functional safety.
Day to day activities include:
Support the elaboration of safety policies, overall safety requirements, and risk evaluation
Elaborate Facilitate task-based risk assessments among internal stakeholders
Facilitate failure analysis at component- and system-level for autonomous mobile robots and legged robots
Supervise the development and execution of Safety Plans for safety functions according to IEC 61508
Lead the creation and maintenance of Safety Cases and Technical Files for audit and regulatory purposes.
Produce and coordinate the development and update of internal/external technical documentation
Track and document the completion of verification reviews and tests for safety functions and other safety requirements specific for mobile autonomous robots
Contribute to training programs, customer support, and field engineering

Desired skills:
MS in engineering (Robotics, Computers, Software, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or similar)
5+ years of experience in safety engineering of complex mechatronic systems and robotics
Strong expertise in System Engineering, risk assessment techniques, quality process control
statistical background and experience with quantitative risk assessment and validation metrics
Demonstrated experience in promoting formal processes for compliance experience on functional safety (IEC 61508, ISO 26262, ISO 13849-1/-2)
Proficiency in developing and executing validation and verification plans
Highly organized and capable of tracking multiple projects through various stages of development
Required Experience with PLM tools for functional safety, SW development and compliance
Authoring, reviewing, and approving safety requirements. Expertise in both Jama and Jira is especially helpful.
