Join our collaborative team at Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Sr Manufacturing Engineering Technician, where you'll contribute to maintaining and optimizing manufacturing processes that enable scientific discoveries. You'll work with advanced equipment and technologies to ensure smooth operations while adhering to quality standards.
This role supports a highly technical manufacturing and maintenance environment with a strong emphasis on machine shop operations, fabrication, and complex equipment rebuilds. The position partners with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure reliability of milling, dispensing, and automated production systems.
A day in the life:
Make repairs or adjustments as instructed by a work order or verbal request by management on all production process equipment and anything supporting production.
Support daily manufacturing, filling, and packaging operations by making repairs to improve operations OEE.
Lead precision machining and fabrication of complex components using manual and CNC lathes, mills, grinders, and welding equipment to support repairs, upgrades, and custom solutions.
Perform full teardown, rebuild, alignment, and commissioning of mill systems, dispensing equipment, and other critical production machinery
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues with autoclaves, including diagnosing mechanical, control, and process-related failures to ensure proper sterilization performance and compliance
Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control system issues, providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians.
Complete preventative maintenance and general repair work orders as scheduled.
Communicate daily with Maintenance Team Lead regarding shift-to-shift transfer information. Connect with supervisor/engineering regarding equipment condition and provide recommendations for enhanced reliability plans.
Collaborate with engineering department to develop capital equipment needs and support new equipment installations.
Arrive to work on time and work during scheduled hours, with additional overtime as needed.
Report any actual or potential safety hazards to management.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
3 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, maintenance, or related technical role.
Machining and fabrication skills, including operation of manual and CNC lathes.
Preferred Fields of Study: Engineering Technology, Electronics, Machining or related technical field
Technical/Trade school certification in relevant discipline is acceptable.
Additional specialized certifications in areas like electrical systems, or equipment-specific training are advantageous.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Deep knowledge of tooling, materials, fits, tolerances, and precision measurement techniques
Strong mechanical skills including the ability to perform mechanical disassembly, repairs, and reassembly of complicated equipment.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and maintenance documentation
Strong experience rebuilding and maintaining mill systems, dispensing equipment, pumps, gearboxes, and related production machinery.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated systems.
Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance strategies and CMMS systems
Knowledge of quality systems and regulatory requirements (ISO, GMP/GEP)
Knowledge of industrial control wiring systems.
Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with equipment operators.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Experience with PLCs, control systems, and automated equipment preferred.
Professional certifications in relevant technical areas preferred.
Other Job Requirements:
Candidates must be able to stand for up to 6 hours at a time and perform physical tasks like squatting, bending, and climbing ladders. The workday can last up to 12 hours.
Lift up to 50 pounds.
Maneuver up and down ladders.
Clean room gowning will often be required.
Ensure the safety of employees and follow all health and safety policies/guidelines.
