Sr. Operating Engineer / Electrician – JLL
What this job involves:
Join JLL as a Sr. Operating Engineer / Electrician and take on a critical leadership role in maintaining advanced electrical and mechanical systems within a cutting-edge Data Center environment. In this position, you'll leverage your extensive electrical expertise to plan, install, and maintain both secondary and primary (high voltage) electrical systems in commercial and office settings. Your responsibilities will span the full spectrum of electrical operations—from repairing faults in high voltage systems to performing preventive maintenance on critical components including emergency generators, ATS systems, 480-volt 3-phase distribution, and motor control centers. You'll also work with HVAC systems, chillers, cooling towers, and programmable logic controls, ensuring optimal facility performance. This role offers the opportunity to mentor Operating Engineers, lead technical initiatives, and contribute directly to mission-critical operations. Your expertise will be essential in maintaining JLL's commitment to operational excellence, safety, and exceptional client service in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Install and monitor performance of electrical equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacement
- Operate and maintain controls; repair and maintain motor control centers and programmable logic controls
- Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems including chillers, cooling towers, and air handlers
- Maintain mechanical systems including pump motors and ventilation distribution systems (VAV)
- Service electrical systems including emergency generators, ATS, 480-volt 3-phase distribution systems, 120-volt system components, lighting, and low voltage control systems
- Plan electrical system additions or modifications on secondary circuits
- Repair faults in primary (high voltage) systems and perform preventive maintenance on high voltage components
- Assist and guide Operating Engineers in applicable procedures and techniques
- Perform daily building and equipment checks and record status of equipment including chillers, AHUs, emergency generators, ATS, and bus rail meters
- Respond to emergency situations and perform tasks necessary to protect property and occupants
- Inform supervisor of material usage and low inventory levels; follow established stocking procedures
- Estimate time and material costs of various projects
- Complete work order documentation, inspect completed repairs, and requisition new parts and equipment
- Ensure adherence to safety program and minimize accidents and potential hazards
- Understand and adhere to OSHA standards and requirements; use personal protective devices as required
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience directly related to electrical work in commercial building construction trades
- Experience with Data Center settings, operations, and protocol
- Strong background in electrical work including high voltage systems, motor control centers, and programmable logic controls
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow architectural and general engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications as well as manufacturer's installation and maintenance documentation
- Ability to maintain a consistent high level of productivity and accomplish multiple tasks expeditiously
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- High school diploma or GED
- Excellent written communication and organizational skills
- Ability to interface with internal and external clients at multiple levels
- Familiarity with computers and office automation applications, including Microsoft Office
- Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk long distances, bend, and lift objects up to 100 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Electrical license or advanced electrical certifications
- Experience with building automation systems and energy management systems
- Previous experience in a leadership or mentoring role
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E and arc flash safety protocols
- Experience working in large commercial or Data Center facilities
- Additional certifications in HVAC, building systems, or safety management.
Location: Whitsett, NC
Work Shift: Monday - Friday; 3:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Salary/Comp: $54,700 to $67,100
