Position Summary
Join The University of Vermont Medical Center as an experienced Sterile Processing Technician supporting a high-volume surgical environment.
In this role, you will independently perform all phases of sterile processing, including decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment across the hospital and offsite clinics.
This position is best suited for candidates with prior hospital-based experience in sterile processing or central sterile operations.
Key Responsibilities
Decontaminate and clean surgical instruments and scopes using appropriate PPE
Inspect, assemble, and package instrument trays accurately and efficiently
Operate washers, sterilizers, and sterile processing equipment
Ensure timely delivery of instruments to the operating room and procedural areas
Maintain instrument inventory and tracking systems
Follow infection prevention, quality, and regulatory standards
Qualifications
Required: Hospital-based experience as a Sterile Processing Technician or Central Sterile Technician
Preferred: CRCST certification (or must be obtained within 12 months of hire and maintained), or equivalent SPD experience
Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, aseptic technique, and microbiology
Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Effective communication and teamwork skills
Schedule & Compensation
Full-time, $22.28–$35.10 per hour (based on experience)
Shifts:
Days: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Evenings: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (+$2.75/hr)
Nights: 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM (+$6.50/hr)
Weekends: Rotating (+$3.50/hr)
Garage parking available for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Day shift includes off-site parking with shuttle access.
