About the Team:

The Search and AI Platform is Elsevier’s agentic data platform powering products such as Scopus, ScienceDirect, and our next-generation LLM-powered research systems. The platform uses agentic services to interrogate our rich knowledge graphs, search and recommendation systems, and our unparalleled collection of research data to deliver insights to the scientific community so they can collaborate more effectively, work smarter, and deliver quality research more quickly.

The SME evaluation squad is building out a web application to scale the evaluation process for Elsevier’s AI and search solutions. This is a greenfield development project that will allow product teams to more quickly evaluate changes and go-to-market with new features.

About the Role

We are seeking a Software Engineering Lead to guide the SME evaluation application team. In this role, you will work closely with product partners, evaluation teams, and platform teams to meet business needs while aligning with organizational standards, architecture, and security practices.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining, designing, and enhancing evaluation tooling microservices and frontend applications using clean code and established software engineering practices.

  • Working with technologies such as Node.js microservices, React, AWS, SQL, and PostgreSQL.

  • Collaborating with operations partners to build, operate, and monitor cloud infrastructure in AWS, with a focus on automation and reliability.

  • Partnering regularly with business stakeholders to align priorities while adhering to architectural, quality, and security standards.

  • Supporting and leading a team of software engineers by providing code reviews, technical guidance, and prioritization in collaboration with product partners to ensure timely delivery of key outcomes.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring engineering teams, with significant hands-on experience delivering full-stack software in a professional environment. We encourage candidates to apply even if they do not meet every listed requirement.

  • Strong programming experience with Node.js, Java, or Python, along with experience using React or comparable frontend frameworks.

  • Experience working with SQL and relational databases.

  • A proven approach to building high-quality software through practices such as clean code, thoughtful architecture, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Comfort learning new technologies, tools, and languages as needed.

  • A collaborative, inclusive mindset with a focus on delivering meaningful value to customers and partners.

  • Willingness to go into the office twice a week in Reforma.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with search technologies such as Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Solr, as well as exposure to Kubernetes or large language model–based systems.
