Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Assistant Team Manager to provide agency cover within our Care Leavers Team based in Newcastle. This is a critical leadership role focused on supporting young people as they transition to independence, ensuring that care-experienced young adults receive high-quality, timely, and outcome-focused support.

What will your responsibilities be?

  • Operational Leadership: Provide day-to-day management and operational oversight for the Care Leaver Team.
  • Staff Supervision: Supervise and support staff, including Personal Advisers and Leaving Care Support Officers, through reflective supervision and performance management.
  • Practice Oversight: Ensure all practice is statutory compliant, strengths-based, and strictly aligned with Pathway Planning duties for young people aged 18–25.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee casework quality, critical decision-making, and risk management to ensure the safety and progression of care leavers.
  • Multi-Agency Collaboration: Support and drive joint working initiatives with housing, health, education, and employment services to ensure a holistic support package.
  • Service Improvement: Contribute to audits, performance reporting, and service improvement activities to maintain high standards of care.
  • Management Support: Act as a deputy for the Team Manager as required to ensure the smooth running of the service.

Qualifications and Experience:

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Social Work England registration and a recognized Social Work qualification.
  • Significant Post-Qualified Experience: Proven experience in a senior or supervisory role, preferably within a Care Leavers or Looked After Children setting.
  • Advanced Supervision Skills: Ability to provide high-quality reflective supervision and guidance on complex, high-risk cases.
  • Knowledge of Pathway Planning: Expert understanding of the statutory duties and legislation surrounding care leavers and transitions.
  • Leadership Capability: Strong ability to lead a team and maintain staff performance in a high-pressure environment.
