Cyber Assistant Underwriter
Manchester | Hybrid Working

Cyber risk is evolving fast – and so are we. As demand from UK brokers continues to grow, we’re investing further in our Cyber proposition and are looking for a Cyber Assistant Underwriter to join our Manchester based team.

Whether you already have some exposure to Cyber or are an underwriting assistant looking to move into a specialist line, this role offers hands on underwriting experience, structured development, and real long term career progression.

The role:

You’ll join our dedicated UK Cyber Underwriting team, supporting new business, renewals and mid‑term adjustments across e‑trade, open market and scheme business.

Working closely with Underwriters, Brokers and internal teams, you’ll play a key role in delivering a responsive, high‑quality underwriting service while developing your technical capability and market knowledge.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Underwriting Cyber risks within your agreed authority levels

  • Managing new business enquiries, renewals and MTAs via Acturis, e‑trade platforms, email and phone

  • Building strong relationships with brokers to secure and retain business

  • Actively following up new business opportunities and renewal information

  • Supporting negotiations by clearly articulating Markel’s Cyber product and appetite

  • Managing diary items and ensuring deadlines and service standards are met

  • Handling internal and external queries professionally and proactively

  • Working closely with Technical teams (including Leeds) and supporting wider team initiatives

What we’re looking for:

  • Previous experience in insurance or underwriting support

  • Exposure to Cyber insurance is beneficial but not essential – we’re happy to train the right person

  • Strong communication skills and confidence dealing with brokers by phone and email

  • High attention to detail and a structured, organised approach

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office

  • Studying towards (or keen to start) CII qualifications – we fully support and fund this
