Job Summary
The Director Transmission Field Services (TFS) is a key member of the TFS leadership team responsible for the development and execution of strategies that allow for the safe and cost effective delivery of field services to our internal and external business customers. Key services offered are various construction services, maintenance, field operations and emergency restoration for transmission facilities and distribution station facilities. For the assigned geographic footprint, responsible for one of the three functional areas in TFS: Station, Protection & Control or Transmission Line.Job Description
What you'll do:
- Responsible for the development and execution of strategies that allow for the safe and cost-effective delivery of construction and maintenance services to our internal and external business customers.
- Create a Zero Harm work culture.
- Promote and enforce safety rules and practices.
- Direct the development of the department's safety and human performance programs and manage their implementation and execution.
- Recommend, oversee development, and enable training to develop a workforce able to deliver the services required in order for AEP to be the Utility of the future.
- Support the standardization of work practices and oversee adherence to those practices.
- Ensure adherence to NERC Reliability Standards and complete work in accordance with all applicable governmental and corporate environmental, health and safety standards.
- Direct the development and execution of the annual transmission maintenance plan along with maintenance and construction practices.
- Communicate and collaborate with internal and external business partners and customers to achieve execution of the transmission capital project portfolio and the delivery of operation and maintenance services.
- Be a strong advocate of the transmission field crews’ needs and represent this position with other business units.
- Be a change management champion as AEP evolves to the Utility of the future.
- Create and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Ensure the prudent use of financial resources and ensure the department remains cost competitive.
- Direct and supervise the activities of department staff including ensuring that construction or maintenance techniques comply with all applicable standards, conducting equipment and material tests, coordinating outages with Transmission Operations, revising engineering drawings to agree with as-built conditions, completing all equipment checkouts and commissioning and completing all required maintenance and documentation needed to meet compliance obligations.
- Assist in the leadership and completion of emergency restoration efforts as required.
- Monitor the effectiveness of TFS practices and programs and make changes to enhance when necessary.
What we're looking for:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in management or financial, engineering, or related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years work experience, of which 5 years is to be in a leadership/supervisory position.
- Experience in engineering or compliance or transmission operations with a focus in transmission or distribution line, station or P&C.
- An experienced professional with demonstrated leadership and teamwork capabilities working in a matrix environment is preferred.
