About our Team:

This is a position in the Research Data Platform team responsible for performing functional testing and developing and executing performance and automation testing solutions for a platform built to support large-scale data transformation, processing, and analytics workflows. The team focuses on ensuring quality, scalability, and reliability across data-driven applications and distributed systems.

About the Role:

This position works with the development team to develop functional testing, apply automation strategy and to plan and execute effective and efficient performance and automation testing to accomplish on-time and efficient delivery of high-quality software products and/or data.

Responsibilities

  • Innovating process improvements that enable efficient delivery and maintenance with consistent direction
  • Researching available tools and leading or participating in initiatives to identify and implement solutions that enhance testing capabilities and product quality
  • Developing and executing automated and performance testing for assigned projects to support successful, consistent delivery
  • Interacting with Product Management, Project Management, Engineering, and Operations teams to plan testing and ensure products meet requirements and quality standards
  • Reporting issues and results, identifying root causes, and documenting findings
  • Ensuring that testing addresses agreed requirements with stakeholders
  • Conducting project reviews, defining review criteria, and implementing procedures for quality control of deliverables
  • Leading or participating in continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of best practices

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ownership for overall product quality, driving quality practices across development and testing activities.
  • Strong understanding of QA methodologies, software development lifecycle, and process improvement practices.
  • Ability to define effective test strategies and design comprehensive test scenarios covering functional, integration, and edge-case conditions
  • Strong programming experience in Java with ability to design and maintain automation solutions.
  • Experience testing microservices and distributed system architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services and cloud-based applications.
  • Experience testing event-driven systems using Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
  • Strong experience in data engineering and data quality testing.
  • Experience working with complex data formats including Parquet, XML, JSON, and large-scale datasets.
  • Knowledge of schema validation approaches (e.g., SHACL or similar).
  • Understanding of Spark jobs and distributed data processing environments such as EMR.
  • Experience analysing and validating data using Databricks by writing queries to verify data outcomes is desirable
  • Understanding of automation best practices and integration with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub).
  • Experience participating in pull request (PR) reviews to ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to engineering standards.
  • Experience monitoring applications and analysing logs using tools such as New Relic or similar observability platforms.
  • Experience supporting end-to-end (E2E) and integration testing across multiple systems and domains.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Product, and Operations
  • Experience with Docker or containerization technologies is desirable.
  • Strong analytical, research, and root cause analysis skills with focus on continuous improvement
