The Pro Bono Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting Pillsbury’s attorney-led pro bono program, ensuring attorneys have meaningful opportunities to contribute their skills to those in need. This position supports both firmwide and local office specific initiatives, maintaining key partnerships, facilitating attorney participation, and ensuring compliance with reporting and recognition efforts. By streamlining administrative processes, fostering inter-office collaboration, and promoting a culture of service, the Pro Bono Coordinator strengthens Pillsbury’s commitment to equal justice and social impact. Their work not only enhances the firm’s reputation but also empowers attorneys to engage in pro bono work that aligns with their expertise and interests.
The Pro Bono Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Pro Bono Committee Chair and Vice Chair, in the strategic management and expansion of Pillsbury’s firmwide, attorney-led Pro Bono Program.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Firmwide Pro Bono Administration
Assist with responding to and, in some cases, serve as point of contact for, firmwide and external pro bono inquiries.
Serve on the Firmwide Pro Bono Committee, planning and attending quarterly annual meetings and facilitating firmwide pro bono initiatives.
Manage, across all firm offices, annual pro bono surveys, internal pro bono awards, and reporting.
Maintain and manage the firmwide Pro Bono Database, including data accuracy and updates.
Work with external vendors (e.g., Elegrity) to improve firmwide pro bono processes.
Support the Social Impact Fellowship, including application process, review and administration.
Support the Equal Justice Works Fellowship, including interview schedule, and act as a liaison with Equal Justice Works staff.
Firmwide Pro Bono Program Development & Growth
If not already a member, join the national organization Association of Pro Bono Counsel. *Only attorneys and non-attorneys who manage or support a law firm pro bono program on a full-time basis may join.
Seek and promote new pro bono opportunities for attorneys and staff, ensuring attorneys meet pro bono participation goals and provide necessary training.
Assist in fostering relationships with external legal service organizations and establish new partnerships, representing the firm at pro bono events, conferences, and external engagements.
Track and report on pro bono participation for internal review and outreach.
Facilitate inter-office collaboration on pro bono initiatives.
Provide media and public relations support for pro bono initiatives when needed.
Local Office Pro Bono Committees—Coordination and Support
Coordinate with members of the Pro Bono Committee for each Pillsbury office on pro bono engagement and opportunities.
Assist with managing the Pro Bono Pulse page on a regular basis for each office, updating opportunities, announcements, and events.
Support pro bono events (e.g. lunch presentations, clinics, and researchathons) when requested by local Pro Bono Committee members.
Respond to and troubleshoot pro bono-related inquiries within the various offices.
QUALIFICATIONS
At least 2 years of legal project management experience, preferably at an AmLaw 100 firm. Pro bono management experience at a law firm or a legal services organization is a plus.
Ability to use good judgment, initiative, and command of resources to accomplish results.
Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a diverse group of attorneys and staff.
Occasional travel may be required.
Ability to multitask and work independently.
Flexibility and ability to prioritize a continually changing workload.
Ability to work well under pressure and be self-motivated.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite and Adobe.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
Qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records will be considered for the position in accordance with the California Fair Chance Act.
California, New York and Washington DC Pay range for this role, with final offer
amount dependent on skillset and experience, is $65,000 - $85,000.
