The Department of Recreation seeks social media contributors and photographers to work during the Summer 2026.
Marketing Contributor:
Area Specific Responsibilities:
- Represent the Department of Recreation at resource fairs, student activities, etc.
- Contribute dynamic content for various platforms to include social media, photography and video.
- Proofreading and strong writing skills
- Contribute consistently to Marketing Editorial Calendar by researching, writing and collaborating with student and professional staff.
- Participate in weekly marketing team meetings.
- Ability to competently, responsibly use social media to articulate specific information in multiple forums to a range of audiences.
- Strong writing skills for various platforms to include blog and social media platforms
- Work independently and dependably in deadline-driven environment
- Outgoing, social skills
- 8-10 hours per week; $15/hour starting rate
Photographer:
Area Specific Responsibilities:
- Work in a multimedia, deadline-driven environment.
- Take high quality photos of our program and facility events for promotional use in print and digital media. Most of the photos would be indoor and outdoor sports and recreation/fitness programs, taking place at various times of day and evening and/or weekends.
- Represent the department at student activities and events and post videos and photos to social media.
- Work samples are required.
- Ability to travel to various locations on and off Grounds.
- All photos taken using departmental and/or personal equipment are property of the Department of Recreation and may not be sold or used by any parties other than the University of Virginia and/or the Department of Recreation. Photographers may include them in their portfolio provided they are marked as “property of UVA Department of Recreation”.
- 4-6 hours per week; $15/hour starting rate

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is a combination of physical and sedentary work involving travel to four recreation centers on Grounds, working special events where there may be large crowds, and extensive use of desktop computers, cameras and mobile devices
