The opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Professional Indemnity Underwriter to generate and underwrite new business for the Markel team, based in our Madrid office. You will engage with brokers and clients in Spain, Portugal and Italy.
 

What you’ll be doing:

• Underwriting and growing the Liability book of business profitably, within the dedicated region
• Establishing, developing, and expanding broker and customer relationships
• Extending and consolidating our footprint as a recognized insurance partner by assessing, proposing, and negotiating insurance conditions for large and midsize projects, with a primary focus on Liability
• Working closely with our Madrid team regarding clients and brokers
• Assessing risks, coverage, terms, and conditions, driving related underwriting processes
• Working closely with the General Manager of the Madrid  office and the Liability department, to ensure development and profitability of the portfolio
• Developing the Underwriting strategy, guidelines, standards, processes and tools
• Managing the referral business
• Interacting with other functions (Business Development, Technical Underwriting, Claims) across the business
• Championing continuous improvements and continually working with the team to improve end to end processes and data accuracy
• Attending regular broker and client meetings with some travel to represent Markel as required

Our must-haves:

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity and profitability
• Proven experience in an Underwriting function and an understanding of the regional insurance market
• Effective interpersonal skills as you collaborate with partners within Spain and Southern Europe
• Strong partnership skills for developing strategic planning to achieve team and company ambitions
• Fluency in Spanish, and good level of written and spoken English. Knowledge of Portuguese and/or Italian a plus
• A positive mind-set and people-oriented work ethic
• The legal right to live and work in Spain

La oportunidad:

Tenemos una interesante oportunidad para un suscriptor de responsabilidad civil profesional que genere y suscriba nuevos negocios para el equipo de Markel, con sede en nuestra oficina de Madrid. Trabajarás con corredores y clientes del sur de Europa (España, Portugal e Italia).

Tus funciones:

•    Suscribir y hacer crecer la cartera de negocios de responsabilidad civil de forma rentable, dentro de la región asignada.

•    Establecer, desarrollar y ampliar las relaciones con corredores y clientes.

•    Ampliar y consolidar nuestra presencia como socio asegurador reconocido mediante la evaluación, propuesta y negociación de condiciones de seguro para proyectos grandes y medianos, con un enfoque principal en la responsabilidad civil.

•    Trabajar en estrecha colaboración con nuestro equipo de Madrid en lo relativo a clientes y corredores.

•    Evaluar los riesgos, la cobertura y los términos y condiciones, impulsando los procesos de suscripción relacionados.

•    Trabajar en estrecha colaboración con el director general de la oficina de Madrid y el departamento de responsabilidad civil para garantizar el desarrollo y la rentabilidad de la cartera.

•    Desarrollar la estrategia, las directrices, las normas, los procesos y las herramientas de suscripción.

•    Gestionar el negocio de referencia.

•    Interactuar con las demás funciones (desarrollo empresarial, suscripción técnica, reclamaciones) de toda la empresa.

•    Promover mejoras continuas y trabajar constantemente con el equipo para optimizar  el proceso de principio a fin y la precisión de los datos.

•    Asistir a reuniones periódicas con corredores y clientes y viajar para representar a Markel cuando sea necesario.

Nuestros requisitos imprescindibles:

•    Capacidad para trabajar en un entorno dinámico, realizar múltiples tareas y tomar decisiones rápidas, manteniendo al mismo tiempo la integridad y la rentabilidad de la suscripción.

•    Experiencia demostrada en funciones de suscripción y conocimiento del mercado regional de seguros.

•    Habilidades interpersonales eficaces para colaborar con socios locales y europeos.

•    Fuertes habilidades de colaboración para desarrollar una planificación estratégica que permita alcanzar los objetivos del equipo y de la empresa.

•    Fluidez en español, así como y buen nivel de inglés escrito y hablado. Se apreciarán conocimientos de Portugues y/o italiano.

•    Actitud positiva y ética de trabajo orientada a las personas.

•    Derecho legal para vivir y trabajar en España.
