Title:
DG BOSS: Marine Outboard Mechanic (FN)- Responsible for the maintenance and repairs of outboard engines and auxiliary systems/equipment on all Utility Boats (UBs), Rapid Response Skimmers (RRSs), and small crafts equipped with outdrive stern units cognizant to A-06 Port Operations. Work includes but are not limited to:
- a) Removal, installation, overhaul, repair, troubleshooting and diagnosing of outboard engines/mechanical system, hydraulics, electrical system and associated equipment (i.e. throttle/engine controls, steering, bilge pumps, fuel distribution and cooling system components), compliant with applicable technical manuals and manufacturer's specifications.
- b) Assessment, reporting and accomplishing corrections and upgrades on safety and functions of boats and boat trailers.
- c) Boat operation for pre or post repair/overhaul test (dock and sea trials) for craft's performance and sea worthiness.
- d) Mandatory usage of Computerized Diagnostic System and various precision measuring tools such as;
- Vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, depth gauges, torque wrenches; and various portable power tools such as drills, grinders, sanders, and impact wrenches in the performance of work. Logging and documentation of critical mechanical parts or engine inspections/diagnosing/repair/overhaul, parts measuring and tests.
- Incumbent is assigned in Annex-06 Engine Shop and performs the duties/assignments of a Marine Mechanic, as required.
- Maintains awareness to safety requirements and all work areas clean and in good housekeeping.
- Performs other duties as required to support contract requirements of Annex-06.
Basic Qualifications
- Knowledge in the operation of small boats and should be familiar with waterways of Diego Garcia.
- Thorough knowledge in maintenance, operation and repair/overhaul of Outboard Engines and familiar with inboard engines fitted with outdrive units.
- Shall be trained and mission oriented.
- Must speak, read, and understand English language, both orally and in writing.
- Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.
- Skilled in Computerized Diagnostic System equipment for outboard and inboard engines.
Preferred Qualifications
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATION OR TRAINING
- Certified PQS 301 (Maintenance Personnel), Personnel Qualification Standard for Ship Maintenance and Material Management (3M) System.
EDUCATION:
- High School graduate and vocational course related to gasoline or diesel engine repair/mechanic.
- Degree in engineering or formal schooling/apprenticeship course in outside machinist/mechanic is preferred but not necessary.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) year experience as Marine Mechanic in Naval Ship Repair Facility or Marinas, commercial shipyard, with three (3) years in maintenance, operation and repair/overhaul of outboard engines.
