What you’ll be doing...
As a network engineer, your primary responsibility will be to act as a proactive scout for the network, reviewing NMC tickets, alarming data, and existing automations to spot trends and identify new opportunities for innovation.
You will perform deep-dive data analysis into various systems to evaluate the performance of current workflows and determine their business impact. By "wading through" complex datapoints, you will synthesize information into a cohesive picture that enables the team to improve the network through strategic automation. Additionally, you will stay in sync with the broader US-based team to ensure all automation efforts align with current operational needs.
The successful candidate will join the Network Edge Operations (NEO) team as an Automation/AI Developer, leveraging a strong networking background to drive Verizon’s strategic 5G initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing intelligent automation solutions and AI-driven workflows to streamline the engineering and deployment of Spine/Leaf fabric networks and network configurations at Mobile Switching Centers. The candidate must demonstrate advanced problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail to develop creative and robust automation frameworks that enhance the efficiency and reliability of our strategic projects. The candidate will collaborate closely with operations, engineering and design stakeholders to foster an environment of innovation and teamwork.
What we’re looking for...
You possess an "automation mindset"—the innate ability to look at a manual process and visualize an automated solution. You are a detail-oriented analyst who enjoys exploring various systems to find meaningful trends within large datasets. You thrive in a role that requires both independent investigation and collaborative synchronization with a global team.
You’ll Need to Have:
A Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Foundational Python knowledge or significant experience in Network Automation.
Proven experience with data analysis, specifically the ability to identify trends within complex datasets.
Experience or the ability to quickly gain proficiency in ticketing and notification systems such as vRepair, Remedy, UTP, and Echo.
Willingness to work a schedule that includes overlap with US day shift (specifically for weekly staff meetings and initial training).
The role requires the development of processes for requirements ingestion, leading to the creation of high-quality automation and AI solutions. The primary goal is to streamline daily operations and significantly boost efficiency.
The successful candidate must possess prior knowledge and operational experience in the construction and management of large, complex, carrier-grade networks, distinguishing this requirement from standard enterprise-level experience.
Must demonstrate proficiency in various programming languages, coupled with hands-on experience in deploying automation frameworks and leveraging AI-driven tools.
Must demonstrate proficiency in analyzing and correlating large, complex datasets from disparate sources and formats, and effectively presenting the analysis.
Proven experience is required in developing solutions for automated data extraction, processing, and analysis. This includes the ability to log into various network device types, such as Cisco, Nokia, and Juniper, as well as interact with both commercially available and in-house developed tools.
Utilize artificial intelligence to derive actionable insights from complex datasets.
Automate the creation of Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and validate existing MOPs against standard templates and designs to automatically correct any deviations found.
Develop and implement automated reporting solutions to condense vast and complex datasets into clear, concise presentations, reports, and graphs, running on-demand and on a scheduled basis.
Automating network implementation work, including scheduling, conflict checks, status reporting, and distribution of work status.
Detect network devices exhibiting operational anomalies or configuration discrepancies and formulate appropriate corrective measures using AI.
Develop and deploy automation tools for the scheduling and execution of unmanned, low-risk network changes while leveraging AI to precisely validate network modifications, guaranteeing that only the desired outcome is implemented.
Provide automation capabilities to achieve massive scale in building new network devices. This includes the initial stand-up configuration of management/console ports, along with the deployment of standard code and standard base configurations.
This initial stand-up process includes the auditing, validation, and automated remediation of any non-standard configurations.
Utilize AI to analyze and correlate logs from diverse sources to pinpoint the root causes of service-impacting events. Furthermore, generate corresponding event timelines by analyzing these dissimilar logs.
AI workflows that are leveraged must be capable of adaptation and learning. Specifically, they need to incorporate human-in-the-loop user input regarding exceptions or incorrect conclusions to evolve and enhance their future utility.
AI workflows should also have the ability to improve performance on a specific task based on data, without being explicitly programmed for every rule. The model must possess the adaptability to incorporate updated designs, integrate new devices, and align with evolving processes and procedures.
Network Engineering:
Deep understanding of large, complex, carrier-grade networks (Spine/Leaf, Mobile Switching Centers).
Operational experience with network device types including Cisco, Nokia, and Juniper.
Experience with IP Layer 1-3 (IPv4/IPv6) for Edge Networks and strong knowledge of VXLAN and Segment Routing fabric networking.
Hands-on experience with Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and OSPF or IS-IS.
Hands on experience with deploying network configurations for virtualized services.
Experience building MOPs and or leveraging automated configuration tools to deploy network configurations.
Cisco (CCIE) or Nokia networking certifications.
Knowledge in cloud computing and Cisco Network Services Orchestrator (NSO)
Automation & Programming:
Proficiency in multiple programming languages.
Experience with API Interactions, data structuring and payload manipulation.
Experience designing and deploying automation frameworks.
Ability to develop solutions for automated data extraction, processing, and analysis.
Scripting for task automation
Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning:
Application of AI tools to derive insights from complex datasets.
Using AI for anomaly detection in network devices and configurations.
Leveraging AI for log analysis and root cause identification.
Implementing AI-driven validation for network modifications.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
Skills in analyzing and correlating large, disparate datasets.
Development of automated reporting solutions (dashboards, graphs, presentations).
Log analysis and event timeline generation.
Operational Methodologies:
Creation and validation of Methods of Procedure (MOPs).
Understanding of standard network designs and auditing processes.
Experience with initial stand-up configurations and compliance auditing.
Communication:
Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to communicate issues and roadblocks as well as creative thinking to provide solutions to those problems.
Be responsible for the project lifecycle and provide consistent updates to key stakeholders on progress.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Other:
Ability to work US daytime hours.
Occasionally provide technical support during US overnight hours if needed to troubleshoot any automation issues.
Even Better if You Have:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Familiarity with NMC operations, including ticket worklog entries and alarm attributes.
The ability to interpret existing automation workflows to effectively answer end-user questions.
Experience with large-scale IT systems and infrastructure.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to stay in sync with a distributed team across different time zones.
Where you’ll be working
In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.Scheduled Weekly Hours
