Key Responsibilities:

  • Braise copper tubing and fittings using oxy-acetylene or induction torch techniques following prescribed procedures and standards.
  • Control flame temperature, filler material, and heat time to achieve consistent, leak-free joints without overheating or oxidation.
  • Prepare joints for brazing by cleaning, aligning, and properly fluxing as required.
  • Inspect completed brazed joints visually and through pressure/leak tests to ensure integrity and appearance.
  • Identify and repair leaks or weak joints using proper rework techniques.
  • Maintain brazing tools and torches, replacing tips, cleaning nozzles, and checking gas pressures daily.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions to determine assembly and brazing requirements.
  • Handle and stage materials safely, including copper tubing, nitrogen, flux, and gases.
  • Record production and quality data (joint counts, repairs, test results) accurately in logs or ERP systems.
  • Comply with all safety procedures related to open flame, pressurized gases, and hot materials.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts in quality, safety, and process efficiency.
  • Assist in training new brazers or operators when assigned.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or material issues promptly to supervisors or maintenance.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with oxy-acetylene torch operation and control of flame type, temperature, and filler rod use.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and assembly diagrams.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for precision joints in tight spaces.
  • Competence in measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, gauges, and pressure meters.
  • Ability to identify defective joints, poor wetting, or overheating and correct them promptly.
  • Knowledge of torch maintenance, gas cylinder handling, and regulator adjustment.
  • Strong focus on quality and consistency — able to meet appearance and integrity standards with minimal rework.
  • Commitment to safety practices involving hot work, open flames, and pressurized gases.
  • Positive attitude toward teamwork, cross-training, and continuous improvement.

Preferred:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3–6 months of related experience and/or training.
