Job Description

What is the opportunity?

Defines and drives product strategy for the horizontal control plane of RBC's hybrid cloud infrastructure platform the foundational layer that every developer and workload at the bank depend on. Scope spans resource management, identity and access management, the infrastructure controls engine, and the platform API/UX backend. Owns the product vision, roadmap, and delivery outcomes for these shared capabilities, shaping how thousands of engineering teams’ provision, secure, and govern cloud infrastructure. Partners with engineering leadership to turn complex infrastructure problems into elegant, self-service product experiences as RBC builds a best-in-class cloud platform for global financial services.

This is a technically demanding role at the intersection of developer experience and enterprise-scale infrastructure. You will be the single accountable product leader for the horizontal platform systems that translate developer intent into governed, compliant, production ready infrastructure regardless of where it runs. You will partner with engineering leadership, coordinate with vertical product leads across IaaS and PaaS, and represent the control plane in executive forums

What will you do?

Product Strategy & Vision

  • Own end-to-end product strategy for platform control plane components (resource lifecycle management, authentication, policy enforcement, compliance automation)
  • Translate infrastructure complexity into simple, self-service developer experiences
  • Define and drive multi-year roadmap for horizontal platform capabilities across all cloud providers and on-premises environments

Technical Product Leadership

  • Partner with architects and engineering leads on technical direction for multi-tenant infrastructure governance
  • Own the infrastructure controls engine (enforcement runtime, policy evaluation framework, audit pipeline)
  • Drive convergence of compliance and controls into a programmable engine, translating regulatory requirements into automated platform controls
  • Define platform contracts clarifying service provider vs. control plane responsibilities

Execution & Delivery

  • Prioritize platform investments based on tenant adoption, developer experience friction, compliance gaps, and cost efficiency
  • Define success through platform health metrics (onboarding velocity, self-service adoption, policy compliance, reliability)
  • Monitor cloud-native ecosystem for build-vs-adopt decisions
  • Lead OKR-based planning with rigorous backlog discipline

Stakeholder & Executive Engagement

  • Coordinate across vertical product leads, platform engineering, security, and enterprise architecture for 1,000+ engineering teams
  • Serve as primary product voice to executive leadership
  • Translate platform strategy into business impact (cost avoidance, time-to-production, compliance, productivity)
  • Partner with FinOps, Security, Build, and Compliance teams on governance enforcement

What do you need to succeed

Must-Have:

  • 8–12 years industry experience, with at least 5 years leading developer platform or infrastructure platform products
  • Demonstrated experience building control plane / platform orchestration products at a major technology company (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Stripe, Datadog, HashiCorp, or comparable)
  • Deep understanding of cloud-native infrastructure: Kubernetes, Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Pulumi, or similar), GitOps, CI/CD pipelines, service mesh, and container orchestration
  • Experience defining platform abstractions — creating opinionated, self-service interfaces over complex infrastructure without exposing underlying complexity to end users
  • Proven ability to manage multi-team platform dependencies and drive alignment across independent service teams
  • Strong engineering partnership skills — can go deep on architecture trade-offs, review technical designs, and hold engineering accountable to platform contracts
  • Experience operating in regulated environments with compliance, audit, and governance requirements (financial services, healthcare, or government)
  • Excellent communication skills: ability to articulate platform strategy to both C-suite executives and individual contributor engineers
  • University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience with multi-cloud control planes or cloud abstraction layers (Crossplane, KCP, Backstage, or internal equivalents)
  • Background in Kubernetes platform engineering — cluster lifecycle management, multi-tenancy, namespace-as-a-service patterns
  • Experience with platform-as-a-product operating models: internal developer platforms, golden paths, and developer
  • experience measurement (DORA metrics, SPACE framework)
  • Prior experience at a hyperscaler (AWS, Azure, GCP) or infrastructure-focused company in a platform PM role
  • Familiarity with FinOps practices: cost allocation, unit economics, reserved capacity planning, chargeback/showback models
  • Experience driving platform adoption at scale (500+ engineering teams, 1000+ applications)

  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team
