1. Purpose
An ABS Business Improvement Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of business processes. The primary objective of this role is to support and guide the company's advancement in implementing the Alcoa Business System (ABS), which serves as the strategic framework for management. While the Operations Manager holds the ultimate responsibility for the management system, the ABS Manager ensures ongoing progress, development, and uniformity across various departments.
The ABS Business Improvement Specialist works closely with the ABS Manager to streamline efforts, enhance value, and maintain a cohesive approach to ABS implementation throughout the organization. This role is essential for fostering a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring the long-term success and value creation for the organization.
2. Responsibility
A Business Improvement Specialist enhances business process efficiency and effectiveness using various methodologies and strategies. They identify and analyze operational processes for improvement, applying Lean and Six Sigma to reduce waste and boost efficiency. The specialist develops and implements process improvement projects, ensuring stakeholder engagement and timely task completion.
They conduct Lean and Six Sigma training for staff, mentor teams on continuous improvement techniques, and track and report on project progress. The role involves working with departments to identify cross-functional improvements and communicate solutions across the organization. The specialist drives the deployment of modernized ABS, ensuring maturity targets are met, and coordinates with departments to implement ABS principles effectively.
Additionally, the specialist supports productivity gains through waste elimination, identifies inefficiencies, develops action plans, and implements solutions. They promote a culture of continuous improvement by training and coaching employees in ABS tools and techniques, working closely with the ABS Manager and other leaders to align with the ABS strategy. The specialist tracks ABS initiatives, reports on key performance indicators, analyzes data, identifies trends, and provides insights for decision-making. They align ABS activities with the company's strategic goals, participate in strategic planning, and help set targets for ABS initiatives.
