POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Business Advisor, Strategic Marketing & Growth, is a seasoned management consultant who supports Canadian entrepreneurs in defining and executing clear, sustainable growth strategies through strong marketing and sales management practices.
This role focuses on helping owners and leadership teams make better strategic growth decisions—clarifying market focus, value proposition, and go‑to‑market priorities—rather than executing marketing campaigns. The advisor helps client’s structure repeatable, insight‑driven marketing and sales practices that align with business strategy, operating realities, and long‑term objectives.
Mandates are both strategic and practical, outcome‑focused, and tailored to each client’s maturity, complexity, and sector.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Client Advisory & Delivery
Lead high‑impact advisory mandates that help entrepreneurs:
Define growth objectives, priority markets, and customer segments
Clarify and strengthen value propositions, positioning, and go‑to‑market strategy
Design scalable marketing and sales management practices (planning, governance, metrics, operating cadence)
Align marketing, sales, and commercial decisions with overall business strategy
Help clients use market insight, performance indicators, and emerging tools to improve planning, prioritization, and decision‑making
Translate business and growth challenges into structured assessments, clear strategic choices, and actionable roadmaps
Deliver practical frameworks, tools, and recommendations that leadership teams can adopt and sustain internally
Coach owners and leadership teams to strengthen strategic thinking, accountability, and execution discipline in marketing and growth initiatives
Practice & Expertise Leadership
Act as a senior subject matter expert in strategic marketing and growth planning for Canadian SMEs
Stay current on market trends, go‑to‑market models, customer acquisition practices, and emerging approaches shaping how organizations plan and manage growth
Contribute to the evolution of BDC Advisory’s Strategic Marketing & Growth offerings, tools, and methodologies
Share expertise internally through coaching, knowledge transfer, and collaboration with other Advisors and Client Partners
Client Collaboration & Business Development
Partner closely with Client Partners to assess client needs, shape growth‑focused mandates, and support proposal development
Participate in key client meetings to establish credibility, set strategic direction, and ensure a strong client experience
Support outreach, content, and thought leadership activities that demonstrate BDC Advisory’s value in strategic marketing and business growth
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
15+ years of experience in management consulting and/or senior leadership roles with a strong focus on marketing strategy, growth, or commercial management
Demonstrated success helping organizations design and embed marketing and sales practices that support sustainable growth
Strong business acumen with the ability to connect marketing and growth decisions to profitability, scalability, and organizational capacity
Exposure to data‑ and technology‑enabled decision‑making in marketing or sales planning; hands‑on technical delivery is not required
Proven ability to advise owners, executives, and leadership teams with credibility, pragmatism, and clarity
Experience working with entrepreneur‑led and owner‑managed businesses, strong understanding of SME realities
Comfortable working in ambiguity, structuring complex problems, and guiding clients to confident strategic decisions
What Sets This Role Apart
Clear focus on strategic planning, management practices, and capability building—not marketing execution
Emphasis on thoughtful growth decisions supported by insight and modern tools, without a technical or implementation mandate
High autonomy and senior‑level client exposure from the outset
Opportunity to influence national advisory offerings and how Canadian entrepreneurs approach marketing and growth as core management disciplines
Purpose‑driven work supporting business resilience, competitiveness, and long‑term value creation across Canada
