Role Purpose
The Research Associate will support the Corporate Research team in delivering high-quality research, financial analysis, and data coverage on global natural resources companies within the energy transition landscape. The Corporate Research team provides research and data coverage to a range of clients, including integrated energy companies, national oil companies, mining firms, utilities, renewables companies, investment banks, and institutional investors. The role contributes to analysing company performance and market developments to support client decision-making. As part of this team, you will contribute to helping clients navigate the evolving energy landscape, supporting Wood Mackenzie’s mission to enable the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
Support senior members of the Corporate Research team in developing datasets, financial models, and written research deliverables.
Monitor news flow and market developments across the energy and natural resources sectors, identifying relevant events and implications for company coverage.
Analyse company-reported data, operational performance, and commercial developments to generate insights.
Contribute to the production of high-quality research content for Wood Mackenzie’s Corporate Service.
Support coverage across one or more segments, including Oil and Gas (Upstream and Downstream), Power and Renewables, and Metals and Mining.
Ensure accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of data and analysis, maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
Collaborate with global teams to support research delivery and respond to client requirements.
Expectations
Demonstrated interest in researching companies within the energy and natural resources sectors.
Relevant experience in corporate research & analysis, financial modelling and valuation within the energy and natural resources sectors is desirable but not essential.
Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in any discipline; backgrounds in Financial Modelling, Mineral Economics, Mining Engineering, Oil and Gas, Economics, Finance, or related fields are advantageous but not essential.
Familiarity with finance, economics, or financial modelling is desirable, but not mandatory.
Experience with research tools, market research techniques, and relevant industry datasets is desirable.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts clearly.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines.
Collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively across global and cross-functional teams.
Strong sense of ownership and attention to quality.
Self-motivated, with the ability to operate both as an individual contributor and as part of a team.
About You
Where you have been is important, but we are more interested in where you can go. We’re looking for Research Associates who can demonstrate a genuine passion for energy and natural resources, and who have the potential to grow at Wood Mackenzie.
You may be a recent graduate, about to graduate, looking for a career change, or returning to work after a break. You must have an excellent command of English, both written and spoken.

Analysis - we provide market-leading research using this data/intelligence and form opinions for, and tell stories to, our customers. We need people with natural curiosity with potential to become experts in their field, and with the ability to articulate – both verbally and in writing – clear, insightful analysis.
Internal engagement – we work with colleagues across the Wood Mackenzie business to deliver a compelling, integrated view of the natural resources sector to customers through our cutting-edge products. For this, we need people who are as comfortable working collaboratively as they are independently and who have excellent interpersonal skills. The role will require close collaboration with colleagues across time zones and flexibility is required.
External engagement – we proactively connect with our customers and contacts in the industries we serve, adding value and promoting the Wood Mackenzie brand. This requires people with the potential to become industry experts who have intellectual curiosity, passion, and excellent presentation skills.
