The Opportunity
Become a Driving Instructor with AMA — Inspire Safe Drivers for Life!
At AMA, we’re more than Alberta’s leading driving school — we’re mentors, coaches, and champions of safe driving. Our mission is simple: to give every student the confidence and skills to enjoy a lifetime of safe driving.
Whether you’re already a licensed Class 5 Instructor or looking to start a new career helping others, this is your chance to make a lasting impact on your community as a full-time AMA Driving Instructor.
We’ll provide the training, tools, and support you need — including an AMA Instructor Vehicle — so you can focus on what matters most: guiding new drivers on their journey.
The Team You’ve Been Looking For
AMA is more than a workplace; it’s a family. Together, we help protect the things that matter most to our more than one-million members—everything from roadside safety to retail savings, food security to childhood well-being. And with operations that span automotive, registries, travel, insurance and more, the opportunities to grow with us are almost limitless!
Building on a century of proud service in Alberta communities, we’re passionate about making a meaningful difference in the places where we live and work. And that all begins with our people. As part of the AMA team, you’ll enjoy:
- Competitive salary and flexible benefits
- Employer-paid retirement savings program
- Employee-exclusive discounts on travel, insurance, memberships, and more
- Free travel medical insurance for you and your immediate family
- Ongoing professional development
- Paid vacation and personal days, including a Volunteer Day and Me Day
- Flexible work models that make sense for your lifestyle
For us, curiosity fuels innovation. We value people who are eager to explore new ideas and who are comfortable putting emerging technologies into practice. We see experience with AI‑powered tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, and similar platforms as a real plus - especially when it’s used to work smarter, increase efficiency, and find better ways to get things done.
Who You Are
- You’re positive, upbeat and love being around people — but when it comes to driving, you’re serious about staying safe and you’re a stickler for following the rules of the road.
- You take pride in being a role model, showing others what excellent driving looks like every day.
- You’re truly unflappable and you’ve got a Zen-like ability to remain calm in even the most stressful driving situations (after all, you know that riding with first-time drivers can be an adventure!).
- You make delivering an excellent customer experience your top priority.
- You’re a natural teacher and enjoy answering questions — even the ones you’ve heard a few times in a day.
- You understand that no two students are the same so you always look for the best ways to share information that will meet the needs of your learners.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Deliver safe, high-quality in-vehicle instruction following AMA’s proven teaching methods.
- Provide constructive feedback and encouragement on student drivers’ ability, helping them to develop the confidence and skills necessary to become licensed, safe drivers for life.
- Manage your own Student scheduling and submission of required daily paperwork.
- Follow Alberta Transportation guidelines and policies for Driving Instructors.
What You Bring to the Table
- You have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- You have the ability to obtain or currently hold a Class 1, 2, or 4 Alberta Operator's Licence.
- You have either professional driving experience or experience instructing others (not a requirement but an asset!).
- You have a proven track record of helping others and the ability to share your knowledge.
- You proudly boast a clean driver’s abstract.
- You have excellent verbal communication skills and a professional, neat appearance.
