Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The School of Education invites applications for an 10-month tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2026.  Applicants with expertise in literacy and reading education, teacher education, clinical experiences, curriculum development, and online pedagogy are encouraged to apply.  We seek an emerging scholar with knowledge and expertise in the science of reading, literacy development and assessment, and culturally and linguistically responsive literacy instruction.  Faculty in the School of Education are required to effectively teach graduate and undergraduate courses, conduct scholarly activities, advise students, and contribute service to their discipline, the School, the University, and the community.

The School of Education prepares quality educators and innovative leaders for elementary, secondary, and post-secondary positions. The School also offers online programs preparing professionals for leadership positions at the master’s and doctoral levels. This is an in-person position, and remote work is not a component of the role. Faculty are expected to maintain a consistent on-campus presence and be physically present several days per week to support teaching, student engagement, and participation in School and University activities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting and integrating the mission and core values of Marymount University through service.

  • Assuming teaching responsibilities as assigned by the Director of the School and as outlined in the Marymount Faculty Handbook.

  • Coordinate/support clinical experiences for UG/GRAD placements and practicums.

  • Contribute to program development, ongoing assessment, and continuous improvement.

  • Advising/mentoring assigned students with program and/or licensure requirements and career information.

  • Maintaining evidence of an active research and scholarship agenda.

OTHER DUTIES AND ASSIGNMENTS

  • Assuming professional and service responsibilities as requested by the Director of the School.

  • Contributing to the University and School program functions and services, including assessment, accreditation, marketing, and recruitment.

  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education                               

Ph.D. or Ed.D. in literacy education, educational leadership, or a related field from an accredited university.  

Experience            

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals and community stakeholders. Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Commitment to and experience with high quality teaching in an online, hybrid, and face to face format in P-12 and university settings. Dedication to high standards and student success. Active research and scholarship agenda.

Preferred: Experience with undergraduate/graduate teaching and advising, clinical placements, and instructional technology skills. Certification in elementary or secondary education or reading specialist.
