With over 1,275,000 spinal cord injury (SC) patients living in the United States without a cure, the researchers at Yu Shang Lee Lab are dedicated to investigating potential treatments. A caregiver in this position works 8:30AM – 5:00PM. This is a great opportunity for a recent college graduate who is planning to take a gap year.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Perform laboratory techniques and procedures required for experimental studies.
- Perform technical lab duties.
- Schedule and perform various analyses.
- Assist with establishing and scheduling various procedures and analyses.
- Prepare reagents, purify chemicals, and identify, separate and quantify various substances.
- Conduct testing and procedures utilizing laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Accumulate data from analyses.
- Prepare charts, graphs, statistical tables, publications, grant proposals and applications for research forms.
Education:
Undergraduate degree required.
May be accepted/enrolled in an accredited college or university as a medical student, MA/MS student or other graduate program student. (EXCLUDES students in a PhD program)
This position is NOT applicable to anyone who has completed all requirements for master’s or other advanced degree.
This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Complexity of Work:
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Work Experience:
None required.
Students with previous clinical research or research laboratory experience are often preferred.
Preference given to a candidate with a Biology background training or related research experience
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
Ability to distinguish color.
Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment.
Ability to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds.
May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
