  • The Construction Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing all aspects of a capital construction program, renovation projects and new hospital construction projects within Phelps Health. This position involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including outside consultants, construction managers, contractors, architects, and state officials, to ensure the successful execution of complex healthcare facility projects. The Construction Manager reports directly to the Executive Director of Facilities and Support Services and is responsible for delivering a high-quality construction program that meet all regulatory requirements, adhere to budget constraints, and align with Phelps Health’s strategic goals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Oversight: Direct and manage all phases of hospital renovation and construction projects, ensuring they are executed on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Team Coordination: Works with the Facilities Director to Coordinate and direct information flow among external consultants, in-house personnel, and project teams to facilitate decision-making processes, project development, and adherence to schedules while controlling costs.
  • Construction Expertise: Utilize extensive construction knowledge and skills to support strategic decision-making in planning and constructing healthcare projects.
  • Contractor Management: Works with the Executive Director of Facilities and Support Services to oversee and direct construction management firms, general contractors, architects, design consultants, inspectors, and other specialty consultants to ensure project success.
  • Budget and Schedule Control: Manage the construction program and projects concurrently while paying specific attention to operational vision, budget constraints, and project timelines.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate directly with clinical and administrative leaders to understand operational needs and coordinate with Clinical Engineering on projects involving specialized medical equipment in a hospital environment.
  • Communication: Maintain effective communication with contractors, architects and engineers regarding project coordination, costs, schedules, and regulatory compliance which will be communicated to the Executive Director of Facilities and Support Service.
  • Reporting: Prepare departmental status reports for the Executive Director Facilities and Support Services and ensure that plans, field conditions, and construction adhere to contract specifications and state regulatory requirements.
  • Problem-Solving: Use experience and judgment to identify and address project challenges, expedite requests for information and field change orders efficiently, and provide advice on increasing construction productivity while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Adherence to Policies: Follow Phelps Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws, and standards. Uphold the organization's mission, vision, values, and quality commitment.

Minimum Education:

  • Associate’s Degree in healthcare-related construction and/or design or equivalent combination of education and experience relating to construction. Bachelor's Degree in Construction/Engineering Management preferred

Minimum Experience:

  • 5 -7 years healthcare-related project or construction management experience, ability to review, interpret and evaluate planning and design directly related to the requirements Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (MDHSS)

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., good eye sight and a steady hand. May experience long periods of standing and walking on hard surface floors.
