The Abbott Diabetes Care division based in Donegal Town manufactures FreeStyle blood glucose test strips and FreeStyle Sensors for use in diabetes management. Among Abbott Diabetes Care leading brands are the FreeStyle Precision, FreeStyle Lite and FreeStyle Libre system.

We are seeking a Planning Team Lead for our Diabetes Division in Donegal.


Primary Function
The Planning Team Lead provides strategic leadership and coordination across manufacturing production scheduling, material and inventory planning, and new product introductions. This role is responsible for directing the Operations Planning Teams, ensuring optimal resource utilization, regulatory compliance and on time delivery to customers. This position reports to the Supply Chain Manager at ADC Donegal.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Developing and executing production and supply plans aligned with business goals.

  • Leading cross-functional planning activities to support manufacturing efficiency and product availability.

  • Managing inventory levels to balance cost, service, and risk.

  • Overseeing the introduction of new products and new materials into the supply chain with minimal disruption.

  • Driving continuous improvement in planning processes and systems.

  • Collaborating with procurement, manufacturing, quality, and demand management teams to ensure alignment.

  • Monitoring KPIs and reporting on planning performance to senior leadership.

  • Development and monitoring or MRP system and materials planning process.

  • Develop and manage site production and material planning processes to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing operations.

  • Responsibility for coordinating team responsible for the balance of production capacity, material availability, and inventory requirements.

  • Lead the Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process at site level through engagement with key stakeholders.

  • Engaging with Global Supply & local site teams to align on the long term volumes and strategic planning

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, cost, inventory, and service performance. 

  • Lead Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives within the supply chain function.

  • Partner closely with Production, Operations, Quality, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and other key stakeholders.

  • Build an effective team.

  • Provide clear direction and define priorities.

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to planning team members.

  • Help allocate tasks, monitor progress, and ensure adherence to planning timelines.

  • Support onboarding and training of new team members.

  • Foster a collaborative and proactive team environment.

  • Foster a culture of accountability and data-driven decision-making.

  • Ensure Environmental, Health & Safety standards are met and all planning activities comply with EHS, Quality, and Regulatory requirements.


Education and Years Experience:

  • A Bachelors degree qualification, preferably in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field.

  • Professional Certification (APICS, IIPMM or equivalent) is desirable.

  • At least five years’ experience in Demand Planning or Supply Chain planning within a regulated manufacturing environment.

  • Prior experience with relevant ERP Systems (SAP, MES) is desirable.

  • Prior experience supervising or coordinating others preferred.
