About the role
As a Backend Java Software Developer reporting to Director – Software Engineering, you'll play a critical role in the design, development, and delivery of high-performance data collection and normalisation solutions that power Nasdaq's global Trade Surveillance capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement robust back-end software solutions that support the collection and normalisation of large volumes of global trading data in real-time and archive modes.
Translate high-level architecture and design models into detailed technical specifications and production-quality code.
Participate in technical design and functional specification reviews, contributing to project estimates, test plans, code reviews and integrate with CI systems like Jenkins
Proactively identify, analyse, and resolve performance bottlenecks and technical issues through profiling using tools such as JProfiler and Yourkit, testing, and root cause analysis.
Troubleshoot problems by analysing code and large datasets using AI tools like Github copilot and Linux commands/script as well as logs using Splunk, Datalog and Graphana.
Collaborate with global collaborators and multi-functional teams to ensure data completeness, accuracy, and resilience across network and server environments.
Provides technology trends and competitive landscape expertise and makes technology decisions to drive opportunities and competitive advantage for our clients.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
6+ years of software development experience with strong core Java expertise in a Linux environment.
Experience with network programming (e.g., TCP/UDP) and low-level data processing, including byte-level encoding and decoding.
Proven ability to work with large data sets, complex data structures, and high-volume data manipulation and sorting.
Proficiency in Linux and scripting as well as in tools such as Git, Confluence, JIRA, and IntelliJ.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in financial markets or trade surveillance environments.
Familiarity with AWS or comparable cloud platforms.
Understanding of SaaS platforms and private cloud architecture.
This position is in Sydney, Australia, and offers a hybrid work environment with at least 2 days per week in-office (may increase to 3 days in the future).
This is a permanent, full-time role so candidates should have full working rights in Australia. To be eligible to apply, you must have Australian citizenship or permanent residency status.
