Position Summary:

The Commodity Dairy Sales Merchant is responsible for customer account management and coordinating and executing trading activities for assigned commodities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the buying, selling, pricing, and merchandising of dairy and feed-related commodities, supported by market research, supply-and-demand analysis, and monitoring of industry, customer, and competitor trends.
  • Initiate, negotiate, and execute purchase and sale contracts, including price, quality, quantity, logistics, timing, and payment terms, while ensuring accurate follow-through and contract closure.
  • Develop, grow, and protect customer and supplier relationships through regular communication, on-site visits, and delivery of market insights, promotional opportunities, and value-added solutions.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities while maintaining and expanding existing accounts to achieve sales, margin, and budget goals.
  • Coordinate transportation and logistics (truck and rail), schedule orders and shipments, and collaborate with internal trading, logistics, finance, and operations teams to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Independently resolve moderately complex issues, escalating more complex matters as needed, while consistently demonstrating sound judgment, integrity, and organizational values.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (or the equivalent in work experience) preferably in Agriculture, Business, Finance Economics or related major
  • 2-5 years’ of experience required in commodity merchandising, originations, or trading
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software

Physical Requirements and Working Environment:

  • Prolonged period of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
