Job Description

Dakota County Technical College seeks an Assistant Director of Student Life to run, develop, coordinate and implement all programs within the Student Life Department. These programs include a wide variety of campus-wide, social, cultural, and recreation activities providing students with an opportunity to integrate student life and academic pursuits. 


This position will serve as advisor to Student Government and the budget committee. They will also provide lead work to the Student Life Assistant, Event/Wellness Manager, Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, as well as supervise student workers, in the absence of the Director of Student Life. The Assistant Director of Student Life will be responsible for a budget of approximately $200,000 per fiscal year.

This position will also provide support as needed to the Inver Hills Community College student life program.

Salary Range: $25.67 - $37.26/Hour; $53,599 - $77,799/Year

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of related professional experience (e.g., Student Life, Residential Life, New Student Orientation, Greek Life, or similar areas)

    • An Associate's degree may substitute for six (6) months of professional experience or a Bachelor’s degree may substitute for one (1) year of professional experience

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, think critically, and problem-solve

  • Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills, with the ability to work cooperatively with others

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and exercise sound judgment in situations involving confidentiality and crisis response

  • Experience working with and addressing the needs of a diverse student community

  • Experience planning events for large groups and managing budgets 

  • Experience in conflict resolution and mediation, with application of student development theory in practice 

Preferred Qualification 

  • Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Educational Leadership or related field

  • Experience working within Minnesota State

  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed

  • Experience with computer applications

  • Experience serving as a coordinator or director for a large program

  • Knowledge of State Statutes, applicable Minnesota State Board Policies to ensure compliance with the Office of Student Life and the College

Other Requirements

In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
