General Description:
The Pharmacy Benefits Navigator II is a specialized, experienced role responsible for proactively identifying and overcoming barriers to medication access for OU Health patients. This position manages complex prior authorizations, copay assistance, and coordination of care activities to ensure timely initiation and continuation of therapy. The role requires strong judgment, independence, and professionalism and typically draws upon experience as a pharmacy technician or similar healthcare role providing direct patient and payer interaction.
Essential Responsibilities:

Serves as a primary resource for resolving medication access barriers, including prior authorizations, copay assistance, grant funding, and delivery coordination.
Gathers, reviews, and submits comprehensive clinical and insurance documentation required to support prior authorization approvals.
Independently navigates manufacturer copay programs, foundation grants, and other financial assistance resources to reduce patient out‑of‑pocket costs.
Acts as a liaison between patients, prescribers’ offices, pharmacies, and payers to expedite access to prescribed medications.
Recruits and enrolls eligible patients into OU Health’s specialty pharmacy program.
Provides medication adherence support and education to patients, reinforcing therapy initiation and continuation.
Builds and maintains strong patient relationships through compassionate, professional, and efficient service delivery.
Appropriately identifies and escalates clinical concerns or therapy‑related issues to clinical or specialty pharmacists.
Demonstrates strong time‑management skills to independently manage workload, prioritize tasks, and meet service expectations.
Applies cultural sensitivity and patient‑centered communication when working with diverse patient populations.
Maintains accurate, timely documentation within pharmacy systems and patient records.
Collaborates effectively with pharmacy staff and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support coordinated care.
Complies with all organizational, regulatory, and payer requirements related to patient access services.
General Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Experience: At least three (3) years of experience as a pharmacy technician required.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Active permit as a Pharmacy Technician by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy within 6 weeks of hire. National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong working knowledge of pharmacy benefit structures, prior authorization processes, and payer requirements.
Demonstrated ability to navigate copay assistance and grant funding programs.
High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with patients, providers, and payers.
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in complex situations.
Customer‑focused mindset with the ability to build trust and rapport with patients.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced, service‑oriented environment.
Cultural competence and sensitivity in patient interactions.
Proficiency with pharmacy systems, documentation tools, and standard office software.
