Position Overview
We are seeking a senior design and technology leader to serve as Senior Director of Design Frameworks, responsible for defining and scaling the shared experience and data foundations that enable intelligent, automated, and agentic workflows across Autodesk’s Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) portfolio. This role requires a strategic, systems-oriented leader with deep experience spanning design, experience engineering, data-informed UX, and AI-enabled product development.
Reporting to the Vice President of Experience Foundations for Autodesk’s AEC organization, you will lead multidisciplinary design teams across visual experience design, design technology, AEC data experience, applied intelligence experience, and AI domain experience architecture. Together, these teams craft the frameworks, patterns, and foundations that shape how automation, personalization, and intelligence are expressed consistently and responsibly across both legacy and next-generation AEC workflows.
As Senior Director, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of human–AI collaboration for AEC and Autodesk users—partnering closely with product, platform, and engineering leaders to ensure emerging AI and data capabilities translate into clear, trustworthy, and scalable user experiences and personalized AI-generated components and systems. You will influence strategy across the Forma Industry Cloud, helping unify experience, data, and intelligence across the full lifecycle of AEC work—from concept and design through construction and operations.
This person will also lead and drive adoption for a cross-Autodesk initiative to create our Autodesk agentic experience platform; a cross-product, cross-industry, AI-mediated front door that helps users reach business outcomes faster and more effectively. This platform will intelligently orchestrate Autodesk tools and services across the portfolio, adding value, and will connect users to trusted ecosystem solutions that extend Autodesk's capabilities.
Success in this role requires the ability to operate at multiple levels: setting long-term vision and architectural direction, enabling teams to prototype and realize future-facing experiences, and aligning diverse stakeholders around shared foundations. You bring strong executive presence, proven people leadership, and the ability to navigate complex cross-disciplinary environments with clarity, empathy, and conviction. If you are energized by building foundational AI-mediated systems that empower teams, scale innovation, and shape the agentic future of AEC and the Autodesk ecosystem, this role offers a rare opportunity to make lasting impact at this transformational moment.
This role is remote-friendly within North America. For those who prefer in-office or hybrid work, the role can be based in San Francisco, CA; Portland, OR; Boston, MA; Denver, CO; or Toronto, ON.
Travel requirements are approximately 20% .
Responsibilities
Advocate for customer-centric, data-driven, and dynamic agentic experiences that cross product and platform boundaries and align to business strategy
Champion and execute a holistic vision for a stellar user experience for our current and future offerings
Balance long term vision and big picture thinking with guidance and support of work currently in flight; ensuring that today’s projects inform the vision for the future, and vice versa
Demonstrate collaborative leadership with leaders across multiple functions and cross-product initiatives, some of which may be very broad-reaching in nature
Drive your team to articulate an innovative design point of view and evaluate alternate design approaches, considering the value to customers and the business impact
Develop high-performing teams on sizeable cross-functional and cross-organizational projects while managing stakeholders, risk, and uncertainty
Be a thought leader, staying informed of emerging technologies and trends (like AI), to drive innovation and deliver a cohesive and industry leading customer experience that spark joy
Promote a culture of rapid iteration based on insights gleaned from user research and data analytics
Minimum Qualifications
15+ years of experience across a variety of UX disciplines with 5+ years of global people management experience
Experience creating and evolving design and visual systems as part of a product or portfolio transformation
Proven track record building AI-assisted or transformational agentic experiences at scale across multiple verticals, major feature areas, or products
Fluency in emerging software technology and the impact AI can have on critical user journeys (CUJs)
Ability to set priorities and evangelize a shared plan with a wide range of audiences at all levels of the organization, including senior executives
Demonstrated leadership that supports and enables the team to effectively deliver to strategic objectives, developing skills, and structuring and hiring for future success
Ability to influence, partner cross-functionally and champion design direction that aligns with strategic goals
