This is a non-union positionAs a Wind Operations Controller at our Remote Operations Center (ROC) in Calgary, AB, you will contribute meaningfully to the smooth functioning of our wind and solar plants. Daily, you will coordinate with Senior Controllers, Field Personnel, Engineering, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Support, and other essential partners to oversee performance, handle operational concerns, and ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
You will analyze substation alarms and troubleshoot wind turbine faults and solar inverter alerts. You’ll help maintain safe, efficient, and high-quality renewable energy production. What You Will Do:
Monitor real-time operations and performance of wind, solar, and substation assets 24/7, identifying abnormalities and alarms
Diagnose and resolve operational issues by interpreting technical drawings, procedures, and system data
Coordinate and implement corrective actions to improve turbine availability, production, and overall reliability
Ensure site safety by communicating abnormal conditions, fault resets, and weather-related risks
Manage compliance obligations, reporting (e.g., North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)/System Operator), and communication with regulatory entities
Collaborate with site teams and collaborators to resolve transmission issues, reduce downtime, and support safe, efficient operations
Who You Are:
Hold, at a minimum, a related technical diploma in electrical program or a related subject area.
Up to 2 years of direct experience in wind turbines and/or power generation facility operations. For candidates who do not possess a technical diploma, an additional 2-years of related experience is required.
Proven wind turbine technician and/or remote control operator experience with strong safety, maintenance, and regulatory compliance knowledge.
Proficient in SCADA, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) systems, Historian databases, and Microsoft 365/Power Platform, including wind/solar control and monitoring technologies.
Solid understanding of power generation, bulk electric systems, facility equipment, and NERC control room standards, with ability to interpret electrical drawings.
Strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, able to perform under pressure, make critical decisions, and collaborate effectively across all levels.
Working Conditions:
The Remote Operations Center operates around the clock, supported by a 12-hour shift arrangement that covers days, nights, and weekends.
Limited travel (<5%), with potential travel to meet with internal operational contacts.
