Job Description

Title:

Principal Maritime & Coastal Engineer

Maritime at KBR is growing and we currently have an opportunity for a Principal Maritime & Coastal Engineer to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to join one of the most talented and respected engineering teams in Australia. Working within our National Maritime Team, you will be involved with the design and planning activities for large scale multi-discipline maritime facilities for a variety of industries including; defence, local government, state government, ports, and sustainability (hydrogen terminals). You will apply your existing experience across these different industries and lead the technical delivery of new and interesting projects. You will be supported by and get to work with a range of other disciplines across KBR and other partners.

While you may know some of our more high-profile projects, such as the AUKUS nuclear powered submarine facility upgrades (HMAS Stirling, Perth), we do much more than just defence. Our team works on large-scale clean energy (Port Bonython Hydrogen Hub, Adelaide), boating infrastructure (Clump Point Boat Ramp, North Queensland), wharf and port infrastrcture (Port of Brisbane, Wharf 11 & 12), and remediation of valuable public assets (Central Pier, Melbourne).

This role will see you leveraging your existing maritime & coastal engineering experience to deliver everything from concept designs through to construction phase support. While this is primarily a technical role, your experience in project management, design management and business development will also be useful.

Preference is for the successful candidate to be based in our KBR Fortitude Valley Queensland office; however other KBR office locations may be considered.

Who are you?

Our Principal Engineers typically have more than 20 years experience with the following skills and experience:

  • Significant experience in the design, evaluation and reporting on ports, harbours, coastal works, marine structures and dredging

  • Significant experience with coastal modelling and/or structural modelling software

  • Significant experience working with the local governments, port clients and/or the Defence sector

  • Familiarity with Australian design codes and guidelines

  • Actively driving innovation within the team and providing supervision, guidance and mentoring to less experienced colleagues

  • Ability to project manage and/or design manage large maritime projects; or teams within larger multidisciplinary projects.

  • Ability to actively engage with clients, pursue and position for opportunities and leverage existing connections to win work

  • Chartered Professional Engineer (or ability to get chartership within an agreed timeframe)

  • Tertiary degree qualifications in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • Eligiblity for Australian Government security clearance

Don't meet every requirement? That's OK. We are growing our team with a range of diverse and varied professsionals. If you don't meet the experience above, but still think you can contribute to the team, we encourage you to apply and have a chat to us.

Benefits of KBR:

  • Flexible working arrangements, including working from home and chosing hours that suit you (nominally 2 days WFH per week).

  • Rostered time off in the form of an extra day of accured flexible leave every month

  • Support to attend conferences, networking events, and technical training

  • Large enough to be involved with significant projects, but small enough to make a difference

  • An opportunity to work with technically eminent professionals

  • Work on projects that make a real difference, and gain experience you wouldn't get anywhere else
