Education

  • Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with completion of the first semester including fundamentals of nursing course or recent graduate of an accredited program within 6 months.

Experience / Qualifications

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant licensure in the state of Florida Preferred.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers.
  • Two letters of recommendation from a nursing school instructor, one may be from an employer.
  • For each subsequent semester, evidence (transcript, grade report) of continued enrollment and progress toward graduation as a nurse must be provided.
  • An employee may remain a Nurse Extern for a maximum of two and one-half years.

Position Summary

The Nurse Extern is a member of the nursing team who contributes to the comfort and well-being of the patients by performing specifically assigned tasks and works under the direction of the Registered Nurse within the scope of practice.

Physical Requirements :

This job can be physically demanding at times requiring stooping, sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time.  The team member will need to frequently assist lifting patients and heavy equipment. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, work independently, making sound decisions, detail oriented, alert, and self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift up to 50lbs.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        
Threshold Requirements
These threshold requirements are required and completed yearly basis, Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation, TB/PPD, Surveillance Program.
Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s).
